You could find people in those circles being happy about the dogwhistles. "He's with us. He can't say it but he's with us" was the sense they'd get from pre-Trump Republicans. But a decade of Trump has made them used to being pandered to. "He's with us and he SHOULD say it" is the new expectation

I think this is the danger that Trump has placed the party in long-term. Trump won the primary in 2016 by throwing away the dogwhistle and just grabbing a whistle. Republicans ALWAYS dogwhistled to white supremacists, but condemned them out loud and white supremacists were used to this.

The director of student media at Indiana University was fired amidst a dispute between university leadership and editors at the Indiana Daily Student over what content gets printed in the student newspaper.

As director of student media, Jim Rodenbush did not directly oversee or have any say over the content published in the IDS, per a charter between the IDS and the university. But he told IndyStar his firing follows a series of meetings with IU Media School leadership in which it grew increasingly apparent they were expecting him to officially prohibit students from publishing news.

Not on your name usually. It originated in far right circles to identify people who were Jewish, they'd put it around names of people they hated, but many jews adopted it themselves as a means of pushback against these fucks. Harry Enten is a jewish man and thus it is likely this situation.
