Hi, I'm NevadaWolf. I live in northern Nevada. I like exploring, in person or by records. I've been all over this state and feel I've barely scratched the surface.

I'm random. I post whatever is on my mind and share pics I think others would like. Here's some that show my different interests.

If you haven't watched this speech from The American President before.. you should.

I had it pinned for four years on my Twitter account during Trump's first administration, and it's for good reason.

"In Nevada's state capital, the Carson City Sheriff's Office ran three searches that correspond to the February 50501 Protests against DOGE and the Trump administration. The agency searched for two vehicles across 178 networks with "protest" as the reason."

I am 100% opposed to these laws because in all cases they are used to pressure disabled people to die. Because that's cheaper than providing the supports they need to live. It happens in Canada with MAID, it happens in Oregon, it will happen in Illinois.

For the first time in years, Dad and I are out watching a meteor shower, the Geminids, and we're actually seeing them!! Usually these outings are a bust but tonight have seen numerous streaks across the sky.

Yay!

I just saw a USPS pickup! Plain old white truck with a shell on the back and a very clear United States Postal Service decal on the door.

Thiamine (vitamin B1) is essential to metabolism & deficiencies produce a condition called beriberi.

I want to tell the story of why the Japanese Army suffered from it until 1926, while the Japanese Navy did NOT after 1884.

A cautionary tale about science denialism & the resulting policy choices.

Top DOI official has DEEP family ties to a northern Nevada lithium mining project that Trump admin worked to fast-track during its 1st term, and now has taken an equity stake in. Real TeapotDome-style conflict-of-interest corruption stuff!

Theater question got me looking up the theater my Dad and I would go to for a movie trip to Reno. The big domed Century Theater. It was always a movie night followed by dinner at the Olive Garden.

The collective shocked gasp filling the dome on opening night of Star Trek Generations as the camera closes in on Data saying "Oh, shit!"

Century Theaters, Reno, NV
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

Yay, was hoping something like this came along since I can't figure out how to use Collabora Office on mobile and desktop.

Bummer that it doesn't seem usable on mobile yet. Hope that changes.

I just learned about Washington flooding today after my Mom told me my Uncle was heading to higher ground to stay with friends. My family is in and around Mount Vernon. 😟

I was so stressed and frustrated at work today that I didn't eat any of my snacks. No wonder I have a headache.

Upside I have numerous people working to not make my work frustrating. Unfortunately, while I often joke about breaking this program, I actually in fact revealed how broken it really is.

Sometimes people are like "aren't you worried about the kids and their nonsensical new brainrot memes"

But like, the thing is, I can still spot a member of my internet generation by how they respond to "badger badger badger badger"

Playing with language and rhythm is fun, it'll be fine!
One of the things we've enjoyed the most about the six-seven phenomenon is the way it comes with a gesture, which we've also seen represented in emoji form as:
🫴 six-seven 🫳
“6-7” belongs in the dictionary, actually

My new idea to start reading again is to stop doing whatever I was doing about an hour before I think I'll go to bed (I also have trouble with this) and sit in my little bean bag chair to read something.

Hoopla had the graphic novel Parable of the Sower.

I've been scrolling my feed for 38 minutes.

Decided to update my iNaturalist since it's been since June/July. eBird really killed my interest since I felt I wasn't providing "quality" information (mostly cause I can't count) so gave up entirely. Trying to get back into it and iNat is so much easier.

Anyone a raven whisperer who can explain what this one is doing? If you can hear it thorugh the airplane, there's very soft "croak"s with each wing lift.
