Theater question got me looking up the theater my Dad and I would go to for a movie trip to Reno. The big domed Century Theater. It was always a movie night followed by dinner at the Olive Garden.

I was asked for the photo that Tamami Tokutake used for her Stillwater art piece and while looking at her gallery, discovered I'd forgotten she used another photo as inspiration for a second piece called Silence of Stillwater. (Her's is MUCH better.)

Far out on Stillwater Point Reservoir, a lone Western Grebe (black cap extending down below the eye) swims smoothly across the rippled water. The day is overcast, giving the water a grey look. Thin green reeds grow up out of the water behind the bird.

Oh! and one more at Soda Lake. Few minutes later (09:05PM) the red was starting to fade and a green band grew in intensity.

Didn't realize I was on "Night Mode" so the settings were ISO 2000 and 0.4998 sec exposure.
A brilliantly red lit sky stretches up from a green band that hangs above the horizon. Some red streaks cut through the green, but it remains a distinctive arch across the sky. Below is a still lake reflecting the incredible aurora.

Here's the two best shots I got of the #aurora this evening in Northern Nevada at N39° W118°.

First was just north on US 95 at 05:52PM.

Second was at Soda Lake at 08:40PM

Both set at ISO 1600 and exposure 10s.
A bright red lit sky fills the night, with patchy clouds dimming the red slightly and obscuring the green that is low on the horizon. Stars manage to shine through the intense aurora. A brilliantly red lit sky with streaks of pink and white stretches up from a green horizon. Distant clouds block much of the green, but the light shines through. Above some bright stars dot the pale red glow and below is a still lake reflecting the incredible aurora.

Severe Geomagnetic Storm WATCH for Nov 12 UTC-day G4 Updated: Tue, 11 Nov. 2025 17:15 UTC WHAT: A CME will likely arrive at Earth and lead to highly elevated geomagnetic activity EVENT: A coronal mass ejection (CME) is an eruption of solar material and magnetic fields. When they arrive at Earth, a geomagnetic storm can result. Watches at this level are very rare; still, this is the fourth G4 Watch issued so far this solar cycle. EXPECTATION: A CME is anticipated to arrive at and partially impact Earth around mid-day, 12 Nov; with the potential for elevated geomagnetic response and dependent upon the orientation of the embedded magnetic field, potential exists for Severe Storm levels. EFFECTS: Detrimental impacts to some of our critical infrastructure technology are possible, but mitigation is possible. The general public should visit our webpage to keep properly informed. The aurora may become visible over much of the northern half of the country, and maybe as far south as Alabama to northern California.
