AUTISM & The medical model of disability

The medical model of disability is the idea that medicine can & should “fix” people w/ disability.

The social model, a more modern approach, sees disability as a direct reflection of society’s ableism & institutional barriers. 1/3

Dear scientists,

We've heard from many of you: "What can I do to act, to help stop the authoritarian takeover? I feel helpless."

One thing you can do is to get every scientist you know onto bluesky.
Get them off Twitter.

If we privatize scientific research & continue this trend of eliminating public sponsored scholarship 👉 as a society we will then accumulate knowledge around things like which 🥚 cartons are more likely to influence consumer buying habits as opposed to whether the 🥚s themselves are healthy.

Due to haphazard slashing of science funding, Columbia Univ has been forced to close 1 of the only dedicated #MECFS research centers in the world.

No research is as lean as #MECFS research. It’s carried out by a dedicated & outstanding group of purpose-driven scientists & community members.
NEW: Cuts to Columbia University funding have shuttered a prominent research center into ME/CFS, a debilitating condition with no FDA-approved treatments. It's a gut punch to a community that for years has been frustrated by a lack of funding. Developing... www.statnews.com/2025/03/19/m...
