SCOOP: The Trump administration has instructed employees and grantees not to use U.S. funds to commemorate World AIDS Day — because the observance was started by the World Health Organization.

I'm delighted to say we have won the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Education with our work on OpenSAFELY, inventing new methods that let researchers analyse NHS GP data while protecting everyone's privacy, and with complete transparency, in a hugely productive platform!

We already have socialism. They have just condemned the VA, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, unemployment insurance….
BREAKING: The House of Representatives voted 285–98 in favor of a resolution condemning socialism.

Eighty-six Democrats joined Republicans in supporting the measure, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

When a huge amount of congressional seats in the US are just safe fiefdoms it's really hard to hold anyone's feet to the fire via peaceful, nebulous protest.
Once again, the main day of Tea Party protests had about 300,000 nationwide, but saw endless coverage.

The No Kings protests had about 7,000,000 nationwide, and many media outlets reacted with a yawn.

No Kings was nearly 25x as big as the Tea Party but the Tea Party got 25x the attention.
Ask yourself this: How would the New York Times have covered the protests if it had been seven million MAGA supporters flooding the streets? We don’t even have to guess: We know how they and other mainstream outlets covered the Tea Party protests during Obama’s first term.

Reviewer: Too bad it’s not the thing I imagined while half-reading your abstract.

Revision: What a coincidence, it is now.

Wild that “accidentally fired a large portion of the CDC” is going to be a minor footnote in the history of this administration
The Trump administration on Saturday scrambled to rescind layoffs of hundreds of CDC scientists who were mistakenly fired on Friday night in what appeared to be a substantial procedural lapse.

COME TO OUR CONFERENCE!

Lots of people work on medicines data: researchers; but also "medicines optimisation" teams, using data to directly improve NHS care; and teams who build data tools. These clans rarely meet... Until now! Join us, Dec 10th, in Oxford.

This has been fundamental to Republican ideology literally my entire life as a politically aware entity.
this is not only the crux of RFKs world view but basically everyone in the entire admin. you dont need welfare, youre a failure of your own accord. youre homeless? thats a yp, buddy. you got sick and disabled? sucks to suck, loser.

Oh yes the MAGA folks certainly don’t want that.
i don’t think people on bluesky understand the severity of this situation.

i woke up to literally hundreds of texts from friends and family thinking about either moving back home to india or applying to other countries for jobs. this includes me.
Those on an H1B cannot return to the US from tomorrow (Sunday) unless paying $100K. This is an out-of-the blue presidential action. We’ll see software engineers stranded abroad.

One easy to predict outcome: those on US visas will travel less… for work, for conferences etc.

In addition to being truly a giant in the field, Drummond also is the source for one of my favorite 2 slide transitions I've ever put in a talk. It shows the rapid change in sentiment on clinical trial registration in the early 2000s (in the wake of the Paroxetine scandal).
