🚨 SIGNAL BOOST 🚨

I've known Brady for decades now (Inner Circle For Life), and he's always been talented as sin with a brilliant eye for graphic design and video editing. And if you've been a fan of what Discotek's been doing, he's been a HUGE part of that team.

If you can, help my bud out.
Hey friends. After having open heart surgery in Dec and another procedure in July, I've been left in 10k+ debt while recovering. During this, we were also laid off from Skullgirls. To try to help dig myself out, I have begun listing things on eBay: ebay.com/usr/mshinzan

We are live! Welcome to Design Room, a new independent games media site.

• We specialize in oral histories like the Final Fantasy 7 and Street Fighter 2 ones I (@mattleone.bsky.social) did at Polygon

I wrote a long article about Rieko Kodama, her career at Sega, the evolution of her company, the games she worked on (including some canceled games and/or games for which she is not credited), the status of women and working conditions in the video game industry, etc.

Illustration: a portrait of Rieko Kodama with some of the games she has worked on. The dominant colors are yellow, purple and red. Counterclockwise from top left: Rieko Kodama, Alis and Lutz from Phantasy Star, Sonic in a maze, Alex Kidd and his motorbike next to Flicky on a waterfront pier, Joe Musashi and his dog near the Statue of Liberty facing a skyline, the three playable characters from Golden Axe seen from behind on the edge of a cliff, and one of the flying ships from Skies of Arcadia.

I was 13. I needed an AOL screen name. I thought Try4ce sounded like a fun way to write Triforce. It was probably actually a lame way to write Triforce, but for better or worse, I've been Try4ce/Try for so long, I'm stuck with it.
As much as I hate it, this is true for me. And that’s ok - it doesn’t mean I love the games any less
Took me several days to fully recover from the same combo a couple of weeks ago. Then I got sick for real a couple of days after

Time Crisis 3 (2003 | Nextech | PS2)
It's sad that every big modern game costs $400 million to make yet fails to reach the pure ludonarrative heights of the Time Crisis Twinks ripping off their Hawaiian shirts to reveal custom varsity jackets during a daring jetski escape
Thanks for checking! I did check for an update when popping in the game card, but it indicated there was no patch. Game has been really great fun in spite of those little quirks though!
Does anyone have the Switch physical of Berserk Boy? While streaming the European physical on Twitch this week, it crashed on a 2017 Switch four times, and every time it boots, up is remapped to Y. Curious if these issues are in the digital or other physical versions. @berserkboygames.bsky.social
The video game that made me fall in love with video games. I’d say that this is likely my favorite game of all time.
"Welcome to the Fantasy Zone!"

Happy 40th birthday, Space Harrier! Released into Japanese arcades on 2nd October 1985, and blowing arcade fans away with even more advanced sprite scaling than Sega's first forays into it and an absolute riot of colour.

"ARRRRGH!"

Folks who create videos about games on the internet: I have questions for you if you'd be so kind. I'm trying to determine the relationship between traditional media and those who create videos about games and have never worked for the games press. Sharing is appreciated!

Also, since Baby Steps doesn't have much of its own soundtrack, I recommend loading up either apple music or spotify to create a soundtrack. You never know when a song might come up that fits the mood or emboldens you to go for it... like when Sigur Rós' "Hoppípolla" came on after a fall
[Coury] I had no idea what I was in for when I booted Baby Steps for our stream on Sunday. "I think I could only play this on stream" I said out loud, after nearly 4 hours. I couldn't stop thinking about it... Then I put another 3 hours into it last night, by myself. I think this my be my GOTY.
New video! TurboNanza is a PC Engine/TurboGrafx/SuperGrafx mod that includes S-video that uses the same colors as composite, which are much better and very different from the RGB palette on these systems. With the RetroTINK 4K's Enhanced S-Video feature, it's near-RGB quality! youtu.be/05x7jujrB3U

I'd like to announce that I'm directing and editing a documentary on Electronic Gaming Monthly in conjunction with @mylifeingaming.bsky.social. This is a passion project of ours. There will be no fundraiser. No ETA yet, hopefully soon. It is not associated with the recent compendium.
This is my favorite name for a retro collection release ever.
