Rather than self-identifying as a "retro gamer," I see myself more as someone who has been accumulating a backlog since 1989. I bought Who Framed Roger Rabbit for the NES with my own snow-shoveling money and by God I intend to beat it one day, y'know?

Greetings, muscleheads, and happy #MuscleMonday. Here's a bit of wonderful news: Muscle Fight sprites are being uploaded to The Spriters Resource by user KuroiOx ("mid chojin" on Discord I think?), who appears to have learned the esoteric art of ripping 2DFM sprites.

Vincent: You know what they call QCF on Discord?
Jules: They don't call it QCF?
V: No man, they got the numpad notation. They wouldn't know what the fuck a QCF is.
J: Then what do they call it?
V: They call it 236.
J: 236. What do they call charging down/back?
V: I dunno. I don't play Guile.

When I was in high school I hung a Dilbert air freshener on the doorknob of my bedroom. It smelled of strawberries and gave me a bit of a headache if I stood near it for too long. According to the Internet there's no evidence such a product ever existed but I remember the fake strawberry smell.

When I was a kid, the TurboGrafx-16 always seemed like this cool, mysterious, unattainable thing I'd see in magazines but never, ever saw in real life.

Years later I dove headfirst into its library through emulation and hey, guess what? It *is* cool. Great console with some great games.

In a world of AI slop shortcuts in gaming, I am reminded that for The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa, the developer's 60 year old father learned pixelart in MSPaint to help make the game

Society parried the ozone layer, acid rain, and Y2K back to back and instead of going "wow, parrying is badass" a lot of people went "society didn't even get hit so I guess there's no need to learn how to parry" and instantly took a thousand hits
we live in a sick society that thinks preventing problems is a waste of time and effort and hey, guess why everything sucks now
