A group of far right assholes have showed up to protest at David Douglas high school after students allegedly pushed back at a formation of a turning point chapter. School is out & they are outnumbered by predominantly Black & Brown students roasting the fuck out of them.
Far right assholes harassing children

Can’t get over the kid who checked in with the larger group of students to ask “would it be mean if I went over there and body shamed him?”

The kids responded by saying yes, reminding them that there’s so much other material to use
It's also a strong model of argumentative structure and citation practices. I could find examples of all the moves I was trying to teach high schoolers (though I had to edit out many jokes)
It's flannel-sheets-o'clock over here

Extremely important to understand how much the "Christianity" of certain groups is top-down and highly manipulated. It is simply not the case that each of these people has their own personal faith that they then bring to the group. The group's ideas are directed from the top & everyone adopts them.
Based on the interviews I've done with conservative Evangelical moms, I'd say--a lot of them aren't engaging with the Bible directly. They're reading Evangelical self-help and parenting books like Your Best Life Now and Growing Kids God's Way that selectively interpret the Bible for them.

If teachers are told using AI technologies creates time to spend developing relationships with students, and the report’s findings suggest AI technologies undermine these vital relationships, then it seems to me resistance and refusal of AI technologies is the most caring response.
“One of the negative consequences AI is having on students is that it is hurting their ability to develop meaningful relationships with teachers, the report finds. Half of the students agree that using AI in class makes them feel less connected to their teachers.”
Rising Use of AI in Schools Comes With Big Downsides for Students
A report by the Center for Democracy and Technology looks at teachers' and students' experiences with the technology.

"Everything has to scale, everything has to be revolutionary" , social media should have been turned into a public utility instead of a for profit mechanism.
It’s really ridiculous behavior if we’re being honest.

Currently at:
— only buy tech too old to have AI built in
— painstakingly disable AI every time they add it to something that used to work perfectly well
— if it can't be switched off, abandon the platform or tool
— if there are no good alternatives, avoid the AI parts
— patiently wait for the crash

I'm a historian. Sewage systems have saved more lives than any medical intervention. Vaccines are second and antibiotics third.

Prior to the 1880s, the urban annual death rate was ~25%; it dropped to ~0.5% in under a generation.

Support your sewage system. Dispose of bodies responsibly.
I’m a sewage system. I also have a great personality.

Trump is too lazy to get us to the mass graves part--and I want you to hear how fucking terrifying it is that personal laziness is the limitation, not belief or structure--but it's still fascism. Sloppy fascism is fascism. Failed fascism is fascism. Half baked fascism is a gooey butter fascism.

This is such bullshit. The public allegations are that Dixon participates in an NC chapter for Redneck Revolt. The gun club for a different chapter in a different state posted flyers on a different campus, which riled up fascists on Twitter. Dixon is blamed.

Is that effective campaign messaging? I don’t know & I don’t care.

It’s true. It’s my job to discover and say things that are true. The radicalization of the American right is *the* political story of my lifetime and the public should know about it. Politicians can do what they like with that.
Friend of mine opened every history class with a piece of art to discuss and I feel like this would be a good one

the modal domestic terrorist over the next decade is going to be a terminally online 20-something who cooks their brain in irony-poisoned social media spaces and decides to kill a bunch of people as an elaborate shitpost

I've said it before, but I think the current spree of memekillings is the product of an ideological transition. It's hard to parse because it's rapidly evolving. It's clearly derived from far right precursors, but it hasn't progressed to coherence yet.
I actually think it's off base for the descriptor of these angry young white men who think violence is cool and/or funny to be "non-political." They are making rape jokes and saying racist things and wanting to sow chaos. That's literally the Alex Jones, Steve Bannon playbook.
@kenklippenstein.bsky.social with the receipts, actually talking to the shooter's friends.

Surprise! Not the left, or even MAGA. Another white kid who spent countless hours online and "was an edgelord who wanted someone to get blamed … to rile people up.”
