They were from Oakland and very chatty. She befriended me and has my details should she come to London next month as planned. She grew up in Atlanta, so the friendliness is doubly to be expected.

There is one American on this bus. And you know they're American because they're the only person that said good morning to the people sat around them. California is my guess.

Random question: can you actually buy choc ices any more? I remember when I worked on pantos that I described Magnums as a choc ice on a stick and I used that description talking to Kat recently but she'd no idea what a choc ice was, and I haven't seen one since then.

Sadly, my contract with Blizzard ended in September. That means I'm looking for fulltime or contract work as a senior writer or narrative designer. If you need someone who can write sharp characters, poetic prose, and emotional stories, I'm available! www.hazelmonforton.com

It's #portfolioday! I'm presently a senior narrative designer at Blizzard, but before that I was at Bungie and Arkane. I wrote for the Writer's Guild award-nominated Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, and a bunch of critically acclaimed seasons and expansions in Destiny 2.

I actually swore at them in Greek but in a positive friendly tone. One of the waiters found this absolutely hilarious and then later on, came and told me that I'd pronounced it slightly wrong and taught me how to say it properly. For which I was grateful.

I can see an incredibly annoying couple from the cruise yesterday who thought they could get off at an island and mark their seat by leaving a cardigans. A Brummie in an Olympiakos shirt wasn't having it. They also chastised me for saying good morning in Greek because everyone speaks English.

I arrived at 7:33 for my 7:55 departure time because they told me to arrive ten minutes early and I wanted to give me time to make some wrong turns (which I did, once). Yet I was the last one to arrive and now we are off at 7:35.

"Look for the bus that says "Meteora" on it. There were 7.

Can't remember the last time I was up before 7 two days in a row. This is hellish.

Some people I know will definitely be interested in this.

Went on a ghost tour yesterday and there was a New Jersey medium there with us. She was a paying customer (I don't think it was a put up because at least once he got irritated with her talking when he was talking). She had a psychic experience during the tour. Because of course she did.

Just got into an argument for (politely) making the apparently absurd suggestion that if you sit and watch a street musician for fifteen minutes and take two lengthy videos of them that you might want to give them some money. Apparently I'm arrogant and rude. And I am, but not for this reason.

If I hear one more tour guide talk about Athenian democracy without mentioning the huge number of people it excluded, I may scream. It's almost as bad as being at Stalin's house, where old ladies shout at you if you say he killed lots of people*

*I did not do this. I knew it would be inappropriate

Really having trouble making decisions today. Argh.

One of the great things about being born in October is it's low season when you travel to avoid your birthday. But still in season enough that you can do most of the same stuff.

Because of this, I'm doing a cruise tomorrow instead of the trip out to Delphi. I think I need to sit on a boat and look at the water rather than do two days straight on a bus hiking around. Intellectually, I'd like to see Delphi, but I'm just not up for it enough to make it worth the effort.

Really tired today. This is the first holiday where it's possible that my reach might have exceeded my grasp. On the plus side, I spent a long time at the top of the Acropolis and even heard some musicians rehearsing at the Odeon down the slope.

Trump not getting the Nobel Peace Prize is a fantastic birthday present, even if he had zero chance of getting it.

I don't know who Ari Shapiro is, but this says more about him than anything else. Apart from anything else, if you had ever read or listened to anything David Simon has ever said or written in public, you would not imagine him thinking anything of the fucking sort
junoryleejournalism.com
David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

Immigration is good. Diversity is good. The antithesis of that outlook is what led to the Hapsburg jaw.

I think this guy has bugged my house because I have almost verbatim said these exact same things. And it's so obvious as well. It's not even a complicated subject.

The smartest response to fear of immigration you'll ever see.

"The elite need to inflame tension on immigration cause they need someone to blame for the problems THEY'RE causing our socities."

I'm very proud of myself. An American in the archaeological museum in Athens just said something was 900 years old. It was from the 14th century BC. And I didn't correct them, I just minded my own business.

At a a little family run (or the appearance of a family run) place in Athens. The guy who's clearly the dad/owner asked me where I was from. But about 10 people have come in since and he hasn't asked any of them.
