I’m a longtime SFF & Romance reader, but thinking over your questions shows me maybe why I prefer urban fantasy as a genre to high fantasy setting. Contemporary settings, spin on dynamics, usually a mystery of some kind running the plot. And I feel like found family/collective happens more. Hmmm.
