NEAR (Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous) Shoemaker was the first spacecraft to orbit an asteroid (Eros) and land on it successfully. #Spacetober

(In hindsight, I wish I’d drawn it facing the other way so the solar panels were aimed at Eros’ light source. Oops!)

Catching up with day 11 of #Inktober #invertober2025 #SpacetoberChallenge #OC_tober . . . In which asteroid witches threaten to throw live spider into cauldron, unaware they are falling victim to sting operation! (Look, sometimes the prompts don't fit together all that well 😆)

The Iridium satellite constellation — 11 satellites in 6 low-Earth orbits at ~781 kms (485 mi) and inclination of 86.4° — provides coverage for satellite phones and integrated transceivers.

"Eclipse" is the topic for today's #spacetoberchallenge. North America was the witness to two TSE's within a decade. In 2024 I released a patch to celebrate it. In 2017 I launched a high altitude balloon in Oregon to capture its shadow. I hung a little astronaut in front of the camera for fun.
