However, there’s always room for improvement. Having more weekend trips to Kitchener and 2WAD service in the next few years will be essential to growing the Toronto-Kitchener corridor.
🚆 Kitchener-Waterloo residents are finally getting what they've been wanting for decades.

Weekend GO service to Kitchener will officially start on November 23rd, with four weekend trips being extended from Mount Pleasant to Kitchener GO.
Details of the development aren't available yet, but public consultation will take place this Fall. We welcome this shift in the TOC program, where Infrastructure Ontario is taking a more active approach to developing GO's parking lot, rather than just developing sites acquired for construction 2/2
Infrastructure Ontario has submitted development plans to Mississauga to develop 2 parking lots at Cooksville GO as part of their Transit Oriented Communities program. 1/x

Metrolinx just announced there will be

Full Service on the Lakeshore West Line Oct 4/5

Citing the Blue Jays playoff game, GO Transit will delay track work to a later weekend.

Trains will operate regular schedules / regular stops on Lakeshore West.
The province is proposing 2 MZOs for the Exhibition station TOC. Consultations are open until October 19th:

Wayfinding is on the agenda at the next TTC Board meeting! Transit riders have long found signage on public transit inadequate and inaccessible. If it passes this strategy is a step toward clearer, more inclusive navigation.

1/5
During the service demonstration, the line will undergo a full test of service, operating as if the line were open without passengers. If successful the line will be able to open. On Saturday September 20th, the Finch West LRT began its revenue service demonstration. 2/2
A 30 day revenue service demonstration for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT may begin this week, according to the Metrolinx CEO. This is the last step before the line is ready to be open. If all goes well we could see the line up and running in November.

Good News! The long awaited Confederation GO station is now complete, and service will start on October 27th. There will be 13 weekday trips and 15 weekend trips serving the station once open. All existing Niagara trains will stop at the station, and some trips will be extended from West Harbour

Many in the comments section of this post agree this fictional display board (for a movie shoot) on a TTC platform is better than what's currently offered.

line 6 finch west begins revenue service demonstration this saturday, the final stretch to opening. this process takes 30 days, meaning you can expect to ride the LRT in the 4th-5th week of october (barring any issues).

so, line 6 is now officially ahead of line 5 to open. made that bet in 2022 🙃

Why is it so hard to get our regional transit agency to actually explain what is in the way of them providing desperately needed service like weekend trains to Kitchener or — in this case — express trains on Lakeshore East
Metrolinx claims that they can't reintroduce express trains on the Lakeshore East line since the 3rd track is out of service.

That's a lie: most of the 3rd track is still in service and there's room for express trains

Can't wait for 15 min all day service on Lakeshore West. Counterpeak train is crammed to the gills and I had to stand from Burlington to Toronto.
Did you know that ION Stage One only had a 1.2% contingency ($10 million)? On ION Stage 2, contingency and cost escalation make up nearly 40% of the $4.3 billion price tag. Research has shown that high contingency and cost escalation are leading drivers of our insanely high construction costs
According to a 2023 document, this is the cost breakdown of the $4.3billion planned construction cost of the ION Stage 2 LRT.
56.4% Professional Services/Hard Costs
22.4% Cost Escalation
16.7% Contingency
4.5% Property Acquisition

Stage 2 ION LRT Initial Business Case results are out:

The full LRT alignment has the highest ridership and economics benefits, but also the highest capital and operations costs.

Thrilled to see the TTC recommend fare capping as part of the Ridership Growth Strategy, something that we have long called for as a common-sense solution to making transit more affordable!

This would replace an expensive monthly pass, that you need to pay for upfront on the same day as your rent.
📣 We’re advocating for the extension of ION to Cambridge.

Extending ION will spark economic opportunities, promote transit-oriented growth and provide a seamless trip from Kitchener and Waterloo.
