Jay’s Shoebox Shuffle Vol 5. This, my friends, is truly exceptional. 50 minutes of mostly mid-late 60s pop obscurities. Every single one a mini masterpiece. A Bob Stanleyesque deep dive worthy of its own Ace release. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ youtu.be/4Ua4cPr6TAA?...

I say this every time I see it crop it but this is such a good little film. Sexual desire meets a pragmatic Shirley Anne Field over lunch and I think about it often

Me and the Polish lads went to the Wojtek Mazolewski Quintet at the Jazz Cafe last nite. Strong Electric Miles/Headhunters vibes and loved the rock star on Rhodes.

Oh no. This film is getting another airing pronto. Big fave.

Seven Days… Seven Nights (1960). Same year as Breathless for Jean-Paul Belmondo but couldn’t be more different. Whatever’s the opposite of joie de vivre, this is it. Jeanne Moreau (what a cast) is typically (brilliantly) unnerving.

Not usually a fan of reunion gigs but after reading this would love a chance to show appreciation for Dolly Mixture. Come on Debsey, Rachel and Hester, please make it happen.

Finished 168 Songs of Hatred and Failure by @keithcameron2.bsky.social. Real, heartfelt thanks to him for giving the Manics back to me. I have picked up the conversation where I left off (Journal for Plague Lovers FWIW). If you are a lapsed fan, you need this book. 🙏

#OtD 7 Feb 1919 construction workers in Essex, NJ, voted to strike if alcohol prohibition came into force. However, union leaders called off the action, saying it would make them "look ridiculous". We made this commemorative merch: shop.workingclasshistory.com/collections/...

Mia Wilson (2025). One of the most perfectly realised albums I’ve heard in a very long time. If these lush Laurel Canyon vibes had been released in 1971 you’d all own this by now. Get on it, thank me later. ❤️

Only just heard Mavis Staples - the purest, most wonderful positive energy force on the planet- won two GRAMMYs the other night. Guess she’s been too busy to call, fair enough, but absolutely thrilled for her. ♥️

Nouvelle Vague (2025). Welcome couple of hours sanctuary and playful homage in the local picture house. Of course I liked it.

On the pillars in the Jazz Cafe there used to be big bold letters STFU. Should bring them back. If musicians want a constant chorus of chatter through their work they’d write it into the pieces.

Sven Wunder in Camden tonite. Board outside called him a Cinematic Jazz Visionary. Actually true. His Mrs-to-be (gave her no name, mate, watch yerself…) on drums ran the show though. Phenomenal.
