There is so much I could say about how bad it is that these changes have been made…

And all of it makes me so angry.

Especially since the statement was sent out on the anniversary of the signing of He Whakaputanga
Don't see the new Aotearoa NZ histories curriculum online yet. But Act are already crowing about having gutted it.

This is an excellent article about the (often horrendous) potential impacts of a measles infection.
It also includes words of wisdom and kindness from Eddie, son of Emily, who has type one diabetes and knows from needles and dealing with things you don’t like.

🔥PEM, fatigue, pain & cognitive dysfunction are brutal companions for this vital profession.

Thinking about what the systematic dismantling and erosion of social welfare, education, healthcare, human rights, and targeting of vulnerable communities alongside deliberate weakening of media and undermining of democratic process means for the next election in NZ and concluding: nothing good.

Education is “a powerful site of social control . . . if you control the curriculum, you can erase histories and languages. Education is not and has never been a neutral space, it either strengthens the status quo or challenges it.” - Tina Ngata

A clarion alarm for all wary of this govt’s actions👇
“If a ‘knowledge-rich’ curriculum isn’t grounded in te ao Māori and the very people and things that make Aotearoa unique, who is determining the knowledge and where does it come from?” — Jessie Moss on the ideology behind education reform.

COVID-19 Brought About a Large Rise in POTS Cases

The study found COVID caused a surge in POTS, confirming a strong infection link.

Cases rose from 4.21 per month (Jan 2018–Mar 2020) to 22.66 per month (Mar 2020–Jun 2024) — a more than 5-fold increase in this once-rare condition.

I thought everyone could use some good news!

My conservation friends' nesting box survived Wellington's wild storm perfectly and a Ruru (tiny owl) sheltered in it. Then one started making a nest! There's a camera inside now, too. The feeds aren't public but here's how they're doing.

This! A wonderful explanation of how people with MECFS experience our symptoms. (And why when you see us we might LOOK fine or as though shopping or getting out is no problem..)
Something I think people really don't understand about ME/CFS vs other fatigue illnesses is how the fatigue symptoms can be delayed for us, and how they accrete, like katamari damarcy.

We do feel exhaustion upon exertion, often much faster or with less effort than others expect. This is true!
