I am reminded this week that having 1 or 2 talking points or visuals that journalists can latch onto is SO IMPORTANT and NOT REALLY THAT HARD. Makes a huge difference in the coverage you can expect.

It’s been almost 48 hours and we still don’t know with certainty how many people were detained on Tuesday, the grounds (if any) on which they’re being held, or what will happen next for these members of our community—all of whom have families and friends and people who love them.

This isn’t normal.

Appleton’s private prison, once the town's biggest employer, has sat unused for 15 years. The Trump administration might have plans for it.

Until my editors at Harper Collins completely disappeared and stopped work on my manuscript, forcing me to pull it.

When COVID began, we already had a stockpile of N-95s left over from living in California. We were so happy to not have to worry about smoke anymore, and now it's every year. I don't want this for anyone, but the lesson is clear: There's nowhere to run, we have to fix the only planet we've got.
I moved to Minnesota in June 2023 during a day when the air smelled like a campfire. When I’ve asked longtime Minnesotans about the increasingly severe smoke during our summers, they all say it was never a problem until a few years ago. And wow, this graph has got the receipts.
