Nhanes has been key for tracking obesity & diabetes rates, identifying high blood lead levels in kids in the 70s, tracking progress on cholesterol lowering, guiding nutrient fortification programs etc

I’m not an expert here but I’d be curious about what recycling at scale is? It shouldn’t just mean shredding factory scraps. I feel like Redwood was born where, real scale = taking old EV packs, refining them back into new battery-grade materials, and selling those in a true circular recycling.

I’d ask if they can actually recycle a battery yet? It’s good that they are extending the battery life for a second purpose, but billions has been invested for the purpose to recycle a battery. Where are they at on that?

More importantly what is the stronger lever to reduce emissions from ammonia production!? REDUCE THE EXCESSIVE NITROGEN APPLICATIONS! Each lb of N you don’t apply avoids two things at once:

1. the soil N₂O from that lb of fertilizer

2. the factory CO₂ from not making it.

The IEA recommends direct electrification wherever feasible. Until, wherever these green ammonia plants are sited have sustained excess energy, it would be a bad choice and likely lead to increased GHG emissions due to opportunity costs

Because of the extra conversion steps using what is *currently* insufficient clean electricity (about to get worse with all the data centers coming online), you get less bang for your dollar/energy to put renewables towards “green” ammonia compared to directly electrifying cars and heat pumps.

There are other more energy requirements for the “green” approach (i.e., a little more drying and compression needed) but this is about a few more percent loss of energy. But the splitting of water is the biggest increase of energy needed to create ammonia compared to current methods.
