I have to admit I wasn’t either until I was invited to interview her.

I think like many women of her generation she is only now getting recognition of her contributions.

The exhibition at HackelBury is her first solo show in the UK.
Credited with inventing the "intimate documentary" style of photography, Joanne Leonard was one of the first to pivot away from street style photography adopt a more personal approach, focusing on her close relationships and immediate surroundings.

Bunch of people saying they don't believe me. Too bad, I have data:

2022: 83% of Americans watch TV with 2nd screen: shorturl.at/8djtG

2023: 91% of American spend at least "some time" looking at phones while watching TV: shorturl.at/uoHsF

And Netflix knows it: www.fastcompany.com/91264942/net...
Coinciding with her first UK solo exhibition at Hackelbury Fine Art of vintage photographs and early collages, I spoke with Joanne Leonard - feminist artist, academic, single mother, and identical twin, known for her "intimate documentary" approach to photography.
What does it take to build and sustain Switzerland’s first & only international art fair dedicated to photography?

I spoke with Sven Eisenhut-Hug (co-founder & director of Photo Basel) and Elwira Spychalska (art historian & artistic director of Photo Basel) to mark the Photo Basel 10th anniversary.
Really nice speaking with Sven Eisenhut-Hug (founding director of photo basel) together with Elwira Spychalska (fair curator) about the upcoming 10th anniversary edition of photo basel which takes place during Art Basel Week from 17th until 22nd of June 2025.

Mark Neville was driving back to Kiev from the front line in Donbas Ukraine & stopped at the side of the road to record this interview.

Living & working in Ukraine since 2020, Mark is a social engaged artist who combines photography and documentary with humanitarian aid and community support.
We speak about his charity Postcode Ukraine, latest publication Diary of a Volunteer, and earlier projects like Port Glasgow and Battle Against Stigma which paved the path for his artist activist practice.

Interesting reading about the tokens and how the models are effectively incentivised to produce more.

Unfortunate that so many industries are held back because of this. (I'm thinking of medicine where a patient cured is a client lost)
