I work on early childhood policy, I complain about drivers, I share my kids' wit and whimsy, and in between I run a little. Living in Jersey City. Opinions are my own.

It's always "too soon" after shootings to talk about gun reform meanwhile this administration will shut down any residency pathways used by a miniscule fraction of violent offenders.

Just a quick shout-out to blood donors.

And I see you, As & Bs! We put a lot of spotlight on Os and ABs but don't think your pints are less amazing.

A loved one got an urgent transfusion - they had time to type, so he got his A and O stayed in the bank for an emergency.

Rob Reiner in a very real way helped to pave the mainstream conversations we have now about funding #earlyed and investing in children. Our field owes him a debt of gratitude. What a terrible loss.

How filmmaker Rob Reiner put early childhood in the limelight
Recruiting Hollywood A-listers for help, Reiner paved the way for passage of a tobacco tax to fund programs for California's youngest children — and helped to spread a national movement.

Rob Reiner made some great movies but he was also unafraid to speak the truth, and was one of the public voices who knew you don’t squander your platform, and only got louder about opposing evil fucks as he got older. Legend.

The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.

How did states respond when the shutdown froze SNAP funds?

We found the most popular response, by a wide margin, was funds to food banks/pantries

More details & what we can learn from this:

Bridging the gap: Lessons from state responses to SNAP pause during federal shutdown - Institute for Child Success

Runner math: I need to walk 1 mile round trip to my polling place in the park.

It is cold and rainy.

If I need to go out anyway, might as well make it 3 miles running!

I rarely run in the rain but I needed a tough, gritty run today!

Tomorrow will be my final election in #JerseyCity - it will be my 24th time voting since moving here in 2013. I appreciate folks giving me a run-off for one last vote!

And will be proud as hell to cast it for James Solomon & Joel Brooks.

The hardest thing for me personally on my #perimenopause journey so far is that hot packs are the most helpful intervention for my back issues but they trigger hot flashes. So I either need to just grin and bear it OR buckle up for a ride on the thermoregulation roller coaster.

In a different vein- it's wild to me to think that someone could arrive in 2021 and be radicalized enough by 2025 to commit this act. I dont know what I thought then timeline would be slower.

Is anyone working on this for their states?

I've grabbed the month-to-month enrollments for a few states (whoever was easiest...) and I'm seeing the trend.

June to Oct 2025, SNAP enrollments down; same time frame previous year, either steady or increase.
I expected to see declining #SNAP enrollments after reconciliation/OOOB1 in July - bc even though big changes haven't come YET, people are unsure after news coverage.

SC has 10,000 fewer households from Jun to Oct. 4% decrease.

What are others seeing? #hunger #foodinsecurity

Pro-tip if you'll be around kids this holiday season but don't know how to interact with them.

Learn their favorite franchises. Then make up a silly crossover situation.

We walked to school cracking up over Thanksgiving with Paddington, Curious George, and Garfield.

That tone change when people REALLY mean it and REALLY want to know.
We are living in times where questions like "How are you doing? "How is your family doing?" are real important questions. I said this during the pandemic, and I'm saying it again.
