List of ICE facilities: www.ice.gov/detention-fa...

But CBP facility mentioned in this article isn't on list. Or the Oswego one reported here (www.timesunion.com/news/article...).

That's bc these are for "temporary" holds. So have them on your radar too. www.cbp.gov/border-secur...

A 13yo in Massachusetts had a "police encounter" and is now being held by ICE in Virginia, 500 miles away. The family has a pending asylum case.

This is unconscionable.

I'm basically the cis-est cis lady who ever cis-ed and I absolutely teared up to this.

I have missed humanity in our politics.

1. As some Democrats have run from transgender rights, Zohran Mamdani is showing what so many others have lacked: courage to lead with his values over pandering to focus groups.

The ad is one of the best things I've seen from a politician on transgender people.

My 4yo asked what holiday they have off for today and it was really cool to realize he is a blank slate.

No need to explain what it used to be and why the change.

Just "it's indigenous people's day" and then talked about what that means.

It was awesome.

This is why the work of community watch groups is so important. It's not just capturing the faces of ICE agents, but also their vehicles. In Massachusetts we are already seeing them adapt and change their tactics in response to the work of community groups.
schnorkles.bsky.social
One of the things that I think the internal politics of ICE/CBP is probably grappling with and didn't quite get when all this kicked off is that the fact that the surveillance state could be turned back on the secret police in a way that makes it very hard for anything they do to be ignored.

From what I'm reading, the most impactful contact to get on your side seems to be US representatives - House reps seem to be moving quickly here when constituents disappear. These electeds have power related to federal facilities that others don't.
megancarolan.bsky.social
Then look those facilities up in the news and see any activists or groups who have been keeping tabs on those facilities, and add their contact info to your file.

These folks are likely to find your loved one before the detainee locater is ever updated.
megancarolan.bsky.social
So lookup ICE and CBP facilities in your region. Fascinating note in this Rolling Stone piece - if kids are involved esp if citizen children, CBP facilities may be more likely.
www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...
Screenshot from Rolling Stone article: "Dexter zeroed in on CPB lockups, because few ICE centers can hold children, and they’re not supposed to hold U.S. citizens. By policy, CPB facilities are only supposed to hold detainees for 12 hours. “But it’s not illegal to do longer than that,” Dexter says. “And because Jackie was refusing to separate from her children, they couldn’t send her to an ICE facility. So they were caught in this sort of no-man’s-land, literally, near the border.”"

- Then, research where your loved one is likely to GO if picked up - though, it seems to be standard to move people a lot.

Many news articles report that detained individuals weren't listed in ICE's detainee finder for DAYS (locator.ice.gov/odls/).

I've left my login credentials for my social accounts in there because it will likely be more seen by online community if my Incident Commander uses my account.

If you or your IC don't use X, loop in someone who does. This is still the biggest, fastest network
megancarolan.bsky.social
Include full name, DOB, physical description of the loved one, and a copy of any paperwork that helps prove legal status (birth cert, passport, visa). If you get an elected official involved.
megancarolan.bsky.social
Include a photo of the individual that conveys a sense of who they are. You ever see articles where they default to drivers license photos? Not humanizing.

Ours is a family photo from a wedding with our kids faces blurred out. Share with social outreach & available to media.
megancarolan.bsky.social
Give some copy/paste context on the individual/family in case mobilization is necessary. Ours is "R. is a long-time Jersey City resident, raised in Brooklyn, parent of 2. US citizen since he was x"
megancarolan.bsky.social
Research & list contact info for
- Your U.S. rep
- Your state reps.
- Local leaders who have been outspoken on this
- Immigrant groups in your area, which you can find thru a google news search.
- Reporters who have covered immigration

Include phone num. & SOCIAL MEDIA HANDLES
megancarolan.bsky.social
- For intl. travel*, include conditions for triggering. "Our flight no. 123 lands at XYZ. If you don't here from me within 2 hours of landing, reach out to me, then emergency contacts to see what's up"

* Include US territories. Yes, even tho they are part of the US
megancarolan.bsky.social
So our emergency file:
- Google doc for easy updates and sharing. A friend has it already shared. In an emergency, your or your family will be frantic. You need an Incident Commander (IC) who is one degree removed.
megancarolan.bsky.social
As you read stories of folks being improperly picked up and/or detained, a few trends:
- Info will not come readily, not even in the detainee database. Know local landscape
- Public pressure & visibility is essential. Move quickly.
- Get the engagement of a public official, ASAP
megancarolan.bsky.social
At this point, I think anyone in the U.S. who has been an immigrant, no matter the status, must have an emergency file to mobilize in case of #ICE.

We put ours together when we traveled internationally in case of re-entry issues. Sharing what we have if helpful...

It's utterly devastating to see decades of progress for the disability community being wiped out in just a few months.

There was of course much work to be done, but now that effort will have to be devoted to clawing back the gains now being ripped away.

The end of federal enforcement of special ed laws. Some states - including MN - will likely be ok. But a lot of disabled kids in a lot of states are going to lose the education that federal law and decades of jurisprudence say they are owed.
Education Department wipes out special ed office in shutdown layoffs, union says
The Education Department laid off nearly everyone at the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services.

“I spent three nights and three days in federal custody. During that time, I was never told what I was charged with, was not allowed to shower despite being covered in tear gas and pepper spray, had no phone call to my family, and no access to an attorney.” - George Retes, U.S. citizen and veteran.
I’m a US citizen and a veteran. ICE arrested me for no reason.
Jailed for three days without an explanation or ability to notify anyone, George Retes argues the only path to healing starts with the government taking accountability for its actions.

Brought to the US at 9 months, wrongfully convicted at 19. A drug conviction from then allows for deportation. But he hasn't had a chance to work on his immigration status 40+ years because he was serving life for a crime now vacated.
