Hey! I'm Michael Busuttil, a comics editor & designer. I've worked on books like RADIANT BLACK, ROGUE SUN, and the rest of the Massive-Verse, the Eisner-nominated DEEP CUTS, Kid Cudi's MOON MAN, THE INFERNALS, and THE SINGULARITY!

I will mostly be here doing dumb bits for my own amusement.
Covers of six comic books - Radiant Black, Rogue Sun, Moon Man, Deep Cuts, Across the Massive-Verse, and The Infernals.

fun fact: the DC in DC Comics stands for Dete Ctive so the full name of the company is actually Detective Comics

I love making comics so much. I love figuring out the pacing, how much to show vs tell, composing each panel and the page as a whole, clever little sound effects or lettering touches, finding ways to streamline the process without compromising quality. ☺️

Ideal story-telling medium if you ask me.

Goku is one of the most famous fictional characters of all time. he has an evil brother who shows up, dies immediately, and then no-one ever mentions him ever again

dragonball has basically become a persisting pop culture entity that won't ever go away which leads to funny things like the fanbase fixating on dudes like Nappa in a desperate attempt to make him a character

shout out to @beccasee.bsky.social, one of my favourite people in comics. we're gonna win her an Eisner soon, I promise

I was gonna write something about how letterers are the unappreciated backbone of the industry but I genuinely just got an email from a letterer delivering a draft that I have to go look at instead

Today, September 1st is Letterer Appreciation Day. Celebrated on Gaspar Saladino's birthday who was one of the greatest comic book letterers to ever pick up a pen. So, please appreciate the artistry of lettering which is more than just words on a comic book page.

Following up on my portfolio critique list: Any of you comics writers who teach feel like coming up with a list of 12 Things You Would Probably Tell an Aspiring Writer about their Comic Script?

Great idea! I'm not the guy to do it, but I'm sure it could be done: "The story starts on page three." "The protagonist's efforts would be more compelling if you established what the stakes are if she fails" etc.

I hope that doesn't mean you were also missing real emails from Image Accounting, possibly to send you vast sums of money

I got an early morning email from Image's accounting that raised some red flags for me.

Do not put your account info in the link they shared.

contact your editor first asking about this.

I hope I'm wrong, but I really think somebody got hacked

not gonna lie, if one of my friends told me they used ChatGPT to write all their texts to me, I would slowly edge that person out of my life

Life is a continuous series of burdensome choices. True freedom comes when you give yourself over to the algorithm.

I don't want it to be wrong in the book but what keeps happening is we have a local translate it, people online tell us it's wrong, and then they all have different ideas of what the right translation would be - I just don't know how to square everyone on this
mbusuttil.bsky.social
hey! every bit of Spanish in the book was translated by a local-Chicago native Spanish speaker and run past another to check it. people keep flagging the Spanish we use but we've checked all of it with multiple people (and we've tried different people, too) so I really don't know how to fix this

I love that he drew those two figures and was like "no I went off on those" so he put them up the top as well

Joe Caroff, West Side Story movie poster, United States, 1961

Caroff, designer of book covers, posters, and logos, including the “007” for the James Bond franchise, died on Sunday, just before his 104th birthday. Among his iconic creations was this poster often misattributed to Saul Bass.
Detail of a poster focused on the words “WEST SIDE STORY” in a weathered stencil style, and an illustration of a man dancing on a stairway. Detail of the same poster but showing more of the dancing illlustration, including a woman on the stairway. Full, uncropped poster with this text on the top, “The screen achieves one of the great entertainments in the history of motion pictures.”

there seems to be a new school of media consumption that's something like "the characters are my friends and I need them to always make good and healthy decisions" and I simply do not understand it

do you think the Russian government would be interested in paying millions of dollars for two guys to talk about Power Rangers
solomonmissouri.bsky.social
I think the most interesting thing (derogatory) about the podsphere is the discovery that many podcasters had been paid millions of dollars by the Russian government to do misinformation

The acknowledge it ... and kept on misinforming
