“Why don’t you go out there and do something useful?” - Sinéad O’Conner
I suspect that we are growing ever closer to a world (at least scientifically) where “living” is going to cease being a useful description. Great reporting by @quantamagazine.bsky.social https://www.quantamagazine.org/a-cell-so-minimal-that-it-challenges-definitions-of-life-20251124/

I think it is very fair to ask, and expect, the league and its teams not to fly with these carriers. You have sth who could not go to games this season because of the fear of deportation. Show an ounce of solidarity, I beg.

I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

This feels like the moment where tv news jumps over to get comment from the Portland Frog
Defense comes out blazing in closing argument, attacks agent Lairmore's credibility.

"This case is about a sandwich. A sandwich that, according to agent Lairmore, somehow both exploded on his chest in a spray of onions and mustard, but also landed intact on the ground still in its Subway wrapping."

Border Patrol agent Lairmore testifies that he was not injured by the sandwich, but he felt the impact through his ballistic vest.

The sandwich came apart and "kind of exploded" on his chest upon impact, he says.

"I could smell the onions and mustard."
