International law needs better stories.

"If we lose sight of history when asking about the future of international law after #Gaza, we risk thinking that before Gaza there existed a pure, moral core."

I wrote about law, history, and power in @nrc.nl

The next Liberal convention is in MONTREAL
Danielle Smith gets booed at UCP convention after mentioning working with Canada
November 28, 2025 at 10:53 PM
Mark Carney: "I hope people today feel a lot more confident that Canada works than they did a couple of days ago."
Quebec and BC Liberals: LOUD BOOS
Danielle Smith: "I hope people today feel a lot more confident that Canada works than they did a couple of days ago."
UCP convention crowd: LOUD BOOS
Danielle Smith tried to sell her federal-Alberta energy deal to the UCP convention crowd: tepid applause.
She told them that this proved Canada can work well for Alberta’s interests: loud boos.

This ain’t a base that wants Smith to work with a Liberal PM on a better industrial carbon tax.

"Mr. St-Pierre fled from reporters after the press conference, ignoring the questions put to him."

Devastating. 🤦‍♂️

Deafening silence from Mélanie Joly and François-Philippe Champagne for the past 18 hours, absolutely nothing from the two ministers holding the economy portfolios.
@stevenguilbeault.bsky.social’s leadership has helped to shape a more sustainable future for Canada. As his colleague and friend, I’m deeply grateful for his commitment to Canadians, and I’m glad that he will continue to serve as a Member of Parliament.

Doughty Street Chambers’ response to proposals to curtail trial by jury
Trial by jury is a deeply entrenched constitutional principle and anchors our liberal democracy. Jury trials enable people to participate and have a say in their criminal justice system.

I worked with @stevenguilbeault.bsky.social starting when I was a new Minister working hard to tackle climate change & build an economy that positioned Canada to win the energy transition. He gets it. He has worked with integrity his entire career & will continue.
He is the best of politics. 🙏

Pundits from the ROC who think they, and Mark Carney, are smarter than everyone else would be well advised to pay attention to Quebec politics and franco media today.

Turns out there are some things- and a seat count- they may not have entirely figured out.

Giving Alberta an exemption to the Clean Electricity Standard means the policy is DOA.

There’s no way SK isn’t asking for the same thing, as they restart coal plants.

One Canadian economy? Nope. Likely scenario is no electricity regs at all, meaning we’re back to Harper-era policy.

9/ This is reckless climate and economic policy. And magical thinking. Net zero doesn’t happen without reducing fossil fuel supply. At least the US has the cojones to say it doesn’t give a shit about climate. @mark-carney.bsky.social is still pretending that Canada does. FIN
