Just heard Drew Struzan passed away 😞 His incredible work has given me and countless others so much awe, joy and inspiration!

I had posters of his work as a teen, I began using color pencils because I thought he used them too. Always inspired by him. Just utterly heart broken.

RIP Drew Struzan.

I got some new tech for my sketchbook from Paper Source (also my first time going to one, comfy store!). A little adhesive doodad from Leuchtturm1917 that I hope comes in handy!
A photo of the inside back cover of my lavender-colored sketchbook showing an adhesive square of matching leather with an elastic band attached, for holding a pencil or pen. A photo of my sketchbook closed, showing the little elastic loop sticking out and holding a blue, woodless colored pencil.

I still miss some of the brushes from before the 2018 update honestly. I’m glad they at least let us keep “the classic” library.

I like the new pencils but they’re just… less versatile then the old ones

My tendonitis is doing better but mostly because I’ve been busy moving, going through a storage unit, and just a lot of Stuff. It’s stressful, but it doesn’t irritate my tendonitis so there’s that? (6/6)

Anyway, my drawing is slowly coming together. Ended up re-doing the lineart a few times because I couldn’t quite find a brush I liked before I settled on Sanderling and Sanderling_Original (5/6)

Maybe it’s because it’s just New and Different I feel like… I’m not as impressed as I excepted to be? I guess it’s because of the lack of Lineart brushes for me, as a Lineart Person, I feel this way. (4/6)

I haven’t messed around with the new set up, but I’m assuming where you go to choose your brushes, where it gives you the choice between “Procreate” and “Classic” you can make your own collection. Which may be what I do. (3/6)

The only brush I found that I liked for lineart are the Sanderling brushes under the Pens tab. I’m more impressed by the painting brushes so far, the new tech they have for the is pretty cool. The Oils tab brushes might be my favorite so far. (2/6)

I’m currently drawing a piece using only Procreate’s new brushes and I don’t know. I’ve got mixed feelings. I mostly use pencil brushes to do my inking (I use the Narinder Pencil to do my lineart usually) and while I Like the pencil brushes, I can’t ink with them (1/6)

This has been a hard year for LA… I found the opening night of the art show uplifting, the community coming together to share their love of art. There were both professional and budding artists! A 10-year-old had a piece in the show and her grandparents came out to support her 💜 it was a great night

Last weekend was opening night for Carter Sexton’s annual Halloween show! I’ve been too busy to upload my post until now, but I’ve got two pieces up! Also? It was just a great opening night. If you’re in the San Fernando Valley area, come check out the show! #halloween
A photo of two of my traditional art pieces framed and hung up on a pegboard at Carter Sexton Artist Materials. The two pieces are small, black and white illustrations drawn on red paper in black frames. The illustration on the right is of two black dogs, and the illustration on the left is of a shadowy man holding a hatchet backlit against an open door, a snowy scene behind him.

There are labels that list the titles of the pieces: “The Outline of My Hatchet Man” and “Illusory Creatures”. They say my pen name and instagram handle, and list the pieces as Mixed Media and Not For Sale.

I’m sure you’ve all noticed by now on October 11th that I didn’t write a September blog post. I’ve been super busy and trying my best to keep my head above water. I‘ll definitely resume blog posts for this month though. It’s Spooky Month, it’s mandatory 🎃

I thought my dad was talking about a parody when he told me saw a video of a guy riding his bike past 🧊 and taunting them with “I’m not a US citizen!”

And 🧊 proceeds to chase the dude like a group of cartoon characters in a slapstick comedy like…

it’s a real video. This country is embarrassing 🥴

New look for Ainur! And me! I can’t think of a single time I purposely chose neon green for something.

I had to search for a song for her… I think Nox Aeterna by Qntal is a good fit!

#finalfantasyxiv #ff14

A screenshot from the MMO Final Fantasy 14. The screenshot depicts my character Ainur, a female Xaela Au Ra (a humanoid with black scales along her wrists and neck jaws and cheek, as well as her calves with horns on each side of her head where her ears would be) posing with her Astrolgian’s star globe, a device that resembles a Renaissance armillary sphere encircled by floating Tarot cards. I’m showcasing a new outfit (Glamour) I’ve made for Ainur: she has short, feathery white hair, a black cottagecore/1930s style dress with neon green trim, a black beret and neon green rimmed glasses, black fishnets and black derbies with neon green soles. Ainur also is wearing neon green nail polish! Her environment,
Yuweyawata Field Station, is a run-down scientific facility with dim green and red lights, and dirty floors and walls. Another screenshot of Ainur, my Final Fantasy 14 character showing off her neon green and black cottagecore-esque ensemble. This screenshot is of a bust close-up of the previous pose: Ainur has one hand behind her back, and the other hold out her star globe, hovering just above the palm of her hand. Her star globe (Phantom Umbrae Star Globe) is also black and neon green; the other portion consists of black almost wing-like shapes while the center is a glowing, neon green vial. This is a screenshot of the back view of the previous pose. You can see with a little more detail with the hand Ainur is holding behind her back and her nails are painted neon green. You can also see a bit of her tail, which is black and dragon-like in appearance. This last screenshot is a top down view of Ainur. You can see a bit more of her derbies in this view, along with the beret and neon rimmed glasses. You can also see more of her star globe (Phantom Umbrae Star Globe) and the neon “vial” in the center of the black wing-like shapes and floating Tarot cards. The stained floor of the run-down scientific facility (Yuweyawata Field Station) is also visible, giving the image an industrial vibe.

The pages have a smoother texture than I usually like, but they’re also thick and quite hearty so I’m fine with that. I recently did an inventory check on my markers and currently only have two greens, as is clear from my drawing lol!
A photo of my workspace depicting a close-up of a sketch of the side of a blue house with a gate covered in Morning Glories, a tree with yellow flowers framing the right side of the vertical composition. There are only two greens used on the tree and Morning Glory bush, a neon green and olive green.

Life’s been incredibly busy for me, but I still managed some sketches in my new sketchbook. This lavender-colored Talens Art Creation sketchbook caught my eye and I bought it on a whim due to the color alone; I completed two sketchbooks this year, I’m allowed to do that 🥲 #sketchbook
A photo of my sketchbook showing a black and white pen drawing of a vintage 1940s stove top with various kitchen utensils stacked on top of it, two frying pans hang on the wall above. A photo of my sketchbook showing a drawing of a sepia toned pen drawing of an outdoor scene: a wicker a chair and a small, round glass table sit beneath the shade of fig tree. A photo of my sketchbook showing a drawing of a black and white drawing of an old axe resting against the trunk of a lemon tree.
