Let's make this clear: if you claim to be leftist, pro-LGBT, pro other minorities etc, then you MUST stand up for freedom of artistic expression, which means defending the right for legal but icky art to exist. Not doing so directly empowers the worst kind of actors wishing to eradicate minorities 🧵

Everyone is praising this and they are right to do so, it's fantastic. And it's not just sex that's being murdered by the internet, but any libidinous feeling. "What will these strangers think of me" is turning us all into paranoid head cases

New Cyborg 009 anime got announced, so it's time for me to partially shift my attention from Lupin III to Cyborg 009.

its good to know japanese, as if you only know English following japan you could feel "the japanese" are about to kick out all foreigners or read that there is no worry about japan falling into populism because they already "control" the foreign population/immigration unlike elsewhere

And in a post-Ghibli era, with the likes of Hosoda creatively falling off, so much of that is instead going to adaptations of easily digestible shonen jump adaptations that it's frankly depressing. So getting a Big Anime Movie that is original, weirdo magical girls? That's so much better

If anything, I think anime films are in a cool place. 2025 alone gets us the likes of Housenka and Hyakuemu, both led by rising figures. Koike, Umetsu, and Kenji Nakamura are demonstrating that vets still have it. There's 4ºC stuff if you hate the working class. But those aren't the Big Anime Movies
