Finished Shin Bōken. It's a completely different manga. A slapstick nonsense cartoon.

Now it's time for Shin Bōken (1971-1972).

Finished rereading Lupin the Third original run (1967-1969). It's such a weird beast.

A collection of abstract snippets from stories that never go anywhere. There's drama on every page, but nothing matters nor has any depth to it, it's just an excuse for something cool or funny to happen.

And there's also this.

The second part was really good, especially this passage. Koike, Takahashi and Ishii have a really strong grasp on these characters, even though their approach might appear radically different. The Lupin that Koike is describing here is Miyazaki's Lupin, Yoshikawa's Lupin and Ōsumi's Lupin combined.

Not a fan of Monkey Punch's digital art, but I like this one.

Anime Factory announced the italian release of Zenigata and the two Lupin and The Immortal Bloodline.

Zenigata will probably come out on Prime Video (the announcement says "directly to your houses") right before the theatrical release of The Immortal Bloodline, just like they did in Japan.

I'm still hoping that they'll make one for Cagliostro.

Takeshi Koike's Lupin the IIIRD The Movie: Fujimi no ketsuzoku (The immortal bloodline) debuts at #10 among last week's most-watched movies in Japan. Right above it there are the new movies of Anpanman and Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, both released on June 27th too.

Finally received my copy of @eikeexner.com 's Manga: a new history of japanese comics. I haven't read it yet, but it's already clear that it's a well made book. I've loved his previous book, Comics and the origin of Manga, so I can't wait to read this one.

A couple of chapters later there's even a whole story with Lupin drinking and getting wasted on every page without any particular reason.

This scene from Chikemuri no Goemon is probably a reference to this page of the manga.

According to Dario Calabria, they are Sparrow cigarettes.

He basically reiterates that the first four chapters of Koike's series were OVAs (and an ONA) and that the story is not connected with The Woman Called Fujiko Mine.
(The review is in japanese but I've used Google Translate for the screenshots, "Jyoen Tasuku" is its misreading of "Yu Kiyozono")

There's no nudity, just spoilers.

The thing about Koike is that he totally gets how to pose this bastard.
June 26, 2025 at 9:15 AM
My dream is an issue of Eureka devoted to Koike's Lupin the IIIRD or Lupin the third in general with some in-depth analysis by real japanese critics.
June 25, 2025 at 9:20 PM
The main feature of Otoko no kakurega's next issue will be about Lupin.
