Best I can tell these must be the invention of a team of brothers consisting of a dentist and an aerospace polymer engineer who went all in on an investment in a confection factory with the express goal of striking it rich.

Oh yeah, went and found the hard spheres from that cookie. Busted one open with a wrench. It is sweet so I don't think it's plastic but it has the consistency of a piece of polished gravel so I'm not sure why they're putting these fucking things inside of food.

Also, actual five year olds don't have RTX 5090s and the trailer discernibly lags at several points (despite probably being completely faked in Blender or somesuch) so I'm just as baffled as ever that it got as far as the Game Awards without having a distinguishable target audience.

I usually forget about it until I see Sid the Science Kid and then go look it up. I'll give them this: if they actually delivered on the visual fidelity of that trailer it would at least be an impressive feat of technical artistry. Anyway, I was never the target audience.

This made me go look up DokeV on YouTube just to see that ridiculous trailer again because that was exactly the game he meant. Not only did that not come out (it has been 4 years) but I found a video called "Why DokeV is Losing Popularity." It was POPULAR?! News to me, man.

It also just doesn't really make sense why any of this would be better without knowing what sorts of operations are the most expensive, how the memory hierarchy works, what CAS timings are, etc. Most people aren't dweebs to that extent, as it turns out, even regular computer users.

Having recommended this process to a few of my friends I now realized that I have committed the classic tech jerk blunder of assuming that the things I know are easily understood (because I know them, and I am an idiot). Turns out, not so much. This is intimidating stuff for most people.

Here are some screenshots of everything that I did. I leave them here for posterity. Still no clue if/how much they've helped/hurt bc I'm still a little too sore to get back into Helldivers 2. That game has some physical demands I can't meet when I'm slow & hurty.

Two values are highlighted in a specific directory inside of regedit. These control memory paging and caching behaviors. Both have been set to a value of 1 turning them on. I had to add PreferExternalManifest as it was not already there in this Registry directory.

Output from Windows Powershell showing that Memory Compression has been turned off.

$Specifically tuned Virtual Memory parameters to always allocate, at a minimum, a page file size on the C:\ drive equal in size to the total amount of RAM in the system, which in the case of my own PC is 64GB or 65536MB. The maximum size is set to twice that, so 128GB or 131072MB.$

Yeah, sounds at least as dumb as Windows 11 deciding not to recognize my Logitech F710 controller's wireless dongle as a valid, generic XBOX360 wireless transmitter when Windows 10 had no beef with it. Totally unforced error, total anti-competitive abdication of utility without merit.
