Some screenshots of an abandoned project I'm still quite fond of.

The idea was the player had to scan NPCs to save them before the end of the world

My deadline for this is coming up and I still don't know what to name it...

'Mage Story' is the project title because it's a story based game about a mage

I keep the player in a cage off-screen because apparently that's easier than not having a player in the scene at all.

Laying down is an important part of game dev

That's one of the main influences :D
Its vision is based on movement, or something

Depends on the individual certainly. But for people like me - somewhat haunted by the stories they want to tell - I see it a lot. The project suffocates under its own weight when the artist can't see it grow and move toward their motivating idea/s.
Compartmentalising development has helped that.
It took a good bit of life happening to understand it wasn't a sustainable way to make anything.

Smaller scope is one thing, but that just sets a lower threshold of completion. Having an effective development strategy is underepresented in standard "gamedev advice".
Which meant I would polish and recreate what little game I'd made over and over, a collection of mechanics and visuals that only ever looked like a game, without ever actually being one.
Aside from gamejams, I never finished.
Which naturally got demotivating as I went through that cycle many times.
Previously, I got lost in the grind of making content linearly, such that it felt like I was spinning my wheels. I'd make a system or resource that I'd end up inserting wherever I could find a place for it. Just to justify the time I'd spent on it.
I've really enjoyed working on this game in the manner I have.

Being able to develop each section of gameplay such that it can stand alone has been very helpful for motivation in a solo-dev context. I can sit down and work on a slice of the game and finish in a day or two.
Yeah I don't know his deal tbh
Got caught sneaking into the thieves den.

They can do anything a tool script can! If it's an EditorScript with a classname it appears in the command palette (ctrl + shift + P).

The scripts here just copy some templates I've set up for quickly making new NPCs and Event triggers. Since my game is full of em :P
#godot editor scripts are super cool for shoving together common components quickly.

A surefire way to stave off going hollow
