#Plantsgiving comes to a close at the in-laws. Once the coffee was served we finished at 60 species from 32 families. As usual, my fave get was annatto (Bixaceae) — which turned up in two ingredients lists this year.

Our final #plantsgiving tally: 36 species, 24 families - a humble yet robust showing!

Most unique families: Pedaliaceae (sesame seeds in our tofu breading) or maybe Linaceae (flax seed in bread).

The Aussie solanums of the Bucknell greenhouse (and their bifurcating stigmas) have been watered for the day — and they told me they can’t wait to see all the species counts come in for #plantsgiving 2025!

I think my #PlantsGiving tally is going to be almost entirely pie-driven. 🥧 🍎 🍋‍🟩 🍇 (plus wheat and sugarcane, natch).
Do you look at this and see at least 10 plant species? Then you are ready for #Plantsgiving 2025!

How many species will be served during your meal??? It ain't a competition, it's just about recognition.

Beyond the traditional faves, a delightful surprise addition to this year's list was hibiscus (part of a lemonade)!

I had my students do #Plantsgiving this year for extra credit. For each of 6 plants they had to find the origin, main regions of production, 2 fun facts, and reflect on their plate (production, biodiversity, etc.). It's been really fun seeing how surprised they are with their results!
