I stopped being an optimist some years ago, but still admire those who are. Yet "the US is a normal country just going through a rough patch" seems to be maliciously ignoring reality.

I work at @freedom.press. I'm told it's some sort of holiday for donating to nonprofits.

My team supports journalists with digital security for themselves and sources. In 2025, I really do think this matters more than ever. If this is something you care about, support our work. freedom.press/donate

utterly petty. shows the Palestine Action ban has driven the Uk government completely mad
This is madness.

All books by Normal People and Conversations with Friends author Sally Rooney set to be withdrawn from sale.

The 34-year-old Irish author says: “The disappearance of my work from bookshops would mark a truly extreme incursion by the state into the realm of artistic expression.”
Sally Rooney books may be withdrawn from UK sale over Palestine Action ban, court told
Rooney has said she intended to use royalties from her work "to go on supporting Palestine Action."

So the last 30 years or so we've seen sensible people thinking far right politicians should have studied the history of Nazism more carefully.

And now there's Trump and Miller. Who clearly did.

International media, you can do better than this.

"Bamboo" is maybe exotic and a compelling hook but it is too easy. The real story here is the growing culture of corruption, including a lack of accountability and oversight, that enabled a chain of human errors that led to this disaster.
