I haven't seen a single commenter or article point out that Tennessee Representative Aftyn Behn's name is very similar to the 17th century British woman playwright Aphra Behn. Do I have to do everything around here?

like watching a concert pianist play the flight of the bumblebee. Nobody says they're not gonna do shit quite like chuck schumer. watch the master at work:
JAKE TAPPER: You called on Hegseth to release the full tapes of the attack. What sort of action are Democrats prepared to take to make this happen?

CHUCK SCHUMER: We hope that they will release the tapes.

I can’t believe I’d never seen this before. Staggeringly good. Check out Flansburgh’s shit-eating grin right before he goes in for his vocal part. They know how good they are and how special this moment is.
This They Might Be Giants TONIGHT SHOW performance of "Birdhouse In Your Soul" from 1990 remains firmly lodged in my noggin thanks to the Tonight Show Band's full commitment and Doc Severinsen's incredible trumpeting... It took an already great song and made it transcendent.

And this is so obnoxious because actual-politics is kind of a fucking layup right now.

Your opponents are running a historically corrupt government.

Be anti-corruption. Run on fixing the shit they broke, holding assholes accountable, and improving people’s lives.

Duh.

It’s a slogan for political operatives who think campaigns are won and lost based on placards and stump speeches.

It tells no story. It has no anchor in the actual world we actually live in. It is a type of politics that eschews being actually political at all.

“Strong floor, no ceiling” is absolutely the type of slogan that a focus group of swing voters will tell you they find appealing after it has been a whole hour and they just want to go home.

It’s a slogan for people convinced this country *really* wants a Mike Bloomberg presidential campaign.

This movie owns. The whole trilogy is great. Kids tell me it’s not MCU canon and that makes sense because it’s so good.

To put a finer point on this whole thing: "Two people with direct knowledge of the operation" — presumably uniformed military leaders — are accusing the U.S. Secretary of Defense of personally ordering specific war crimes. That's a historic accusation.
Textbook war crime/extrajudicial killing

"Two survivors were clinging to the smoldering wreck. The Special Operations commander overseeing the Sept. 2 attack ... ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions."

Hegseth order on first Caribbean boat strike, officials say: Kill them all
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a verbal order to kill all crew members in the Sept. 2 strike on a suspected drug boat. Navy SEALs fired a second missile.

In my Grifters and Ideologues theory, Hegseth is your classic grifter. Hegseth doesn't know his job well and doesn't care to know if well. He is obsessed with how people look, which reveals a profound lack of understanding of the military and an obsession with tv.

Working people have been left behind in New York. In the wealthiest city in the world, one in five can't afford $2.90 for the train or bus. As I told Trump today— it’s time to put those people right back at the heart of our politics.

one thing i think is true is that republicans assumed that democrats would not respond in kind and that the forceful pushback spooked them (a lesson to learn here, perhaps)
Trump's corrupt scheme to rig 2026 is suddenly falling apart:

*Court strikes down Texas GOP gerrymander
*Indiana GOP lacks votes to redraw map
*Big Dem win in Virginia could give Ds more seats

On the pod, DLCC head Heather Williams is informative on what's next:
