Empathy is the name of the game on our latest episode! Whether it’s a fungus that repeats your words back to you in #StarfleetAcademy: Vitus Reflux, or a virus turning humanity into a gentle hive mind in #Pluribus.

If you stuck around for this week‘s epilogue, we ranted about Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ use of SF geography. It‘s actually worse than we recalled. The Apes are on Bush St which has no cable car and doesn’t even point to the water. The Hyde line they’re on runs on the other side of Nob Hill

This post really, deftly lays out the entire right wing argument for GenAI. Notice it doesn’t just take aim at artists as elites, but also academics, a group of people famous for putting patches on their elbows because they can’t afford new jackets. Everyone is an elite except the very rich.
no great artists have ever struggled, a famous thing about artists that we all know. everyone prior to three years ago lived lives of luxury.

A fantastic episode and not just because The Jerks reveal that they'll be guest hosting Trek Marry Kill this month or because they confirm Bryan's suspicion that the Secret Hideout shows have forgotten that Betazoids are telepaths (not empaths), but because it's a very fun look at SFA's start.

The episode I remember most from this show is the very special Reaganesque “just say no” one. The main character is tweaking out on brain enhancers. It’s also well animated and introduced the phrase “ew, grosski!” to my vocabulary.

Perhaps these are not all disingenuous, retroactive opinions, but rather folks who always felt this way but it was considered gauche to criticize a popular artist. When they’re knocked down to human size it becomes open season.
one thing that would be cool, when prominent creators turn out to be terrible people, would be if we didn't have to go through this performative dance of insisting that their work was never good in the first place.

This, honestly, doesn’t make a heap of sense. Even if they never updated the app beyond making it future OS compatible, it’s on a subscription, usually with other apps. Nobody has to buy it. It can just continue to be part of the bundle. And most of all, continue to work.
Called and spoke with Adobe customer support and the guy told me Adobe is discontinuing Animate because apparently the company can't think of any new features to add to the program and they feel it's gotten stale.

So they're just GETTING RID OF IT???

Watching The Pitt gives me the opportunity to yell out “my god man drilling holes in his head isn’t the answer! The artery must be repaired!” Like every single episode.

A giant monster just rushed into the room, picked him up like a ragdoll, and slammed him against the wall. And yet he can’t look away from the circuits spilling out of the guts of the man he just shot.

Salinas Californian, February 1, 1989. Director Henry Jaglom, when Ted Turner was considering colorizing Welles' CITIZEN KANE:

"Orson said to me at lunch, about two weeks before he died--I remember this vividly: 'Please do this for me. Don't let Ted Turner deface my movie with his crayons."

Watched Sofia Coppola’s “Priscilla” again and still marveling at how wrong critics got this movie. Not only is it not an epic romance of any sort – every adult in Priscilla’s life failed at keeping her from being groomed into an underage trophy – but I’m sure the film’s thesis is that Elvis was gay.

TNG's Season 4 trailer music. I am thrilled to see the exact dance move I've been doing to it on the album cover.

TNG Season 4 trailer music was a booty shaking banger. I’m guessing this has to be from a stock library. Does anyone know its origin and if the whole stand alone track is available somewhere? @nsbulk.bsky.social?

Three times this week, twice to my face, I was told by a person much older than me that AI is inevitable and, as an artist, I must use it as a tool or I will get left behind. None of these people were artists and one admitted that every graphic designer in their office hates AI.

Ok the Stranger Things finale was pretty good. Hit all the right notes and gave satisfying closure to just about everyone. I whole heartedly recommend. Some spoiler thoughts below. 🧵1/

One problem with Stranger Things S05 is that no way 80’s kids would just fall in line with creepy Mr. Whatsit and his candle ceremony. We all had stranger danger and satanic panic beaten into our heads.
