Life in Dad Land - tales of dementia from the inside

Dad is in his 80s, has a non-Alzheimer's dementia, and is otherwise healthy. He's been living with me since early 2020.

Various tales include whatever his current obsession is, such as A Door Into Summer, No Spiders!, and Why Can't I?

I've always like Monet.

Autumn on the Seine at Argenteuil by Claude Monet, 1873, High Museum of Art (Atlanta, GA)

#ArtHistory #ModernArt #Impressionism
Monet painted this view of the Seine near the town of Argenteuil, northwest of Paris, shortly after his arrival there in 1871—likely from the small boat he had converted into a floating studio. He included the Château Michelet and other recognizable architectural landmarks. The small, delicate brushstrokes identify this work as belonging to the “high” phase of Impressionism. The brilliant colors of Monet’s landscape are mirrored in the water below, resulting in a remarkable symmetry that makes it difficult to distinguish between the reflections and their sources.

Superior Sin

Your man deploys the vice,
But mine commands their trade,
With polished cold device.

Your man markets the graft,
But mine floats it as shares,
With sophisticated craft.

Expect problems from counter-protesters, DHS, even police.

There goes our trip to the Asian market (unless we can get there Friday) as I don't want any issues - fiance is Puerto Rican, has an accent.

The evidence can be used in a new trial.

Here are the grown “kids”. That one guy looks late 40’s. These are the Hitler lovers.
Vermont state senator Sam Douglass. Bland white guy with glasses and beard. Brown hair. Man in poorly fitting dark suit with glasses and dark hair. Yes he’s white. William Hendrix who is the communications assistant to vile Kris Kobach, Kansas AG. Bobby Walker, dark hair and dressed exactly like trump. Not a kid at all. He’s vice chair of New York State young republicans. I guess young means under 50. Peter Giunta looks like he’s in his 40’s. I don’t know his age. Also dressed like trump in an ill-fitting suit. He has one of the worst combovers I’ve ever seen. Beard and mustache. He’s the chair of the NY state young republicans. He looks like the type of guy that looks through your windows at night.

I have to go through the old purses scattered about the house, find some (legible) receipts and compare them to now.

I do know that I am spending more on groceries, mostly for the food that dad will eat, and his coffee.

Yuck. At least the rat was dead.
My adult cats used to bring in mice to play with. I'd find dried out mouse bodies all over the laundry rooms - behind the HW tank, the furnace, between litter boxes...

Hamas was killing opponents as the World Leaders congratulated each other. Israel was killing Palestinians as well.

It's a centuries old blood feud, fueled by modern borders and greed (oil, land, water) and hate so ingrained in the local leaders that a lasting peace is nigh impossible.

1 post doesn't beat 2900 pages of shit, JD. You couldn't even stand up for your wife.

Love the painting. The words that go with it are also good, food for thought.

I do things that make me feel alive, peaceful, happy. That these things often bring life, serenity and joy to others means I'm on the right track.

no part of the world can find you. - David Whyte

Story-ALTtext⬇️
An abstracted landscape suggesting rocks, water, sky

The poem continues:

“Time to go into the dark
where the night has eyes
to recognize its own.

There you can be sure
you are not beyond love.

The dark will be your womb
tonight.

The night will give you a horizon
further than you can see.

You must learn one thing.
The world was made to be free in.

Give up all the other worlds
except the one to which you belong.

Sometimes it takes darkness and the sweet
confinement of your aloneness
to learn

anything or anyone
that does not bring you alive

is too small for you.”

That last line reaches in and grabs me by the guts - how many times have I built my days around people and things that do not bring me alive?

Too many times. But not any longer. Life is precious and short and especially now (in the last third) it cannot and will not be squandered.

A low-angle shot depicts a white lighthouse against a backdrop of stormy, cloudy skies. The lighthouse, showing signs of age with rust and disrepair, is partially obscured by the dramatic clouds. In the distance, a flock of birds flies across the sky, adding a sense of movement and scale to the scene.
