It's always a good feeling when I find a bug in game data and backwards trace it to figure out the gameplay impact instead of the normal "be impacted by the bug, investigate what's going on" flow.

It makes me feel like I know what I'm doing!

My take: the intent behind the phrase and the people expressing it is to be trans supportive, and while I'm not a huge fan of the "doll" term when referring to us, I will take whatever support I can get at this point.

Seeing an artist post stuff that a manager looking over my shoulder would see as NSFW untagged earns instant side-eye and a report from me.

Seeing them complain about getting NSFW tagged for it earns an unfollow, almost without fail.

I only have one real ex, and we remained friends for the rest of her life. We were honestly *closer* after we broke up, because there was less pressure to make an incompatible romance work.

It’s wild how many people look at me like I’m insane when I tell them I’m still friends with all of my exes. Like, if one relationship type didn’t work with that person, why wouldn’t I want to keep a friendship that does?

Disclaimer: I have never, ever written lines for VO, and with one exception, the only strings that I've written that ended up being player-facing were creature names. This is purely written from a consumer of games standpoint, not a game dev standpoint.

A good example of the former is "Shepherd*" or Rook. A good example of the latter is all of the "Champions" in WoW when the text is your character's name.

For MMOs, I honestly prefer minimal VO, saving it for key moments or for boss barks.

My biggest issue with extensive VO in games is names. In games with extensive VO, you either have to:
* Have some nickname that everyone calls them by regardless of the player chosen name so that their chosen name is meaningless.
* Have the text line say one thing but the VO say another.

I saw some folks thinking that voice acting in games was objectively good, always a positive. "What kind of game doesn't have voice acting in 2025?!" sorta thing

I say that there are positive reasons why one would choose NOT to have VO.

How many design justifications we can come up with?
