The universe hates me today. I once again chipped my tooth (this time really badly) on my husband's cauliflower cooking and need an emergency dental appointment.

We came home and hour ago after driving for four hours, I had pre-ordered Door dash to have food when we get here, Dasher stole our food, we have no dinner.

Salt on wounds today.

I find it kind of wild that my great-grandfather was born ~1860, had 11 children, and his last child (my grandmother) died 165 years later.

Last one, I think this was my grandparents' engagement photo (artificially colorized), taken in 1946 or 1947. She would have been 18ish at the time.

My grandparents near the end of my grandfather's life. They married when she was 19 and he was in his early 20s and stayed married for the rest of their lives. I hope you all find someone who still looks at you like that after 6 decades.

My grandmother, who lived nearly a century, leaves behind 4 children, 9 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren, nearly all of whom (including great grandchildren) she got to meet at least virtually.

Travel safe to my badass grandmother who left to join my grandfather on the other side. She was 97 and awesome. She never really fully recovered from losing my grandfather, I hope they're together somewhere out there. 🕯️

I note that I had purchased the capybara plushie in the prior post for myself. Husband was adamant that child would see want and hijack it. I insisted I would defend it as mine. It is now not only hijacked, it is her favorite toy.

Sigh.

Housekeeping did this to my daughter's bed while we were out. No comment.

Good piece on "What Hitler’s DNA and the dire wolf teach us about science" in C&EN.

Discussing my personal experiences navigating neurodiversity in academia, and what worked for me to cope better in my latest column for EMBO Reports. Please share with anyone who might find this useful/helpful. You are not alone.

Waymo is occasionally violent and random, but so far not worse than average Atlanta driver. It does have a strange idea of routes though, and took me on a massive detour to get to campus today.

Shame on the EU Parliament for granting Senior Material Europe AB an exception to dump 1280 tonnes of methylene chloride in Eskilstuna. Thousands are protesting, justifiable. The EPA banned nearly all uses of methylene chloride in the US in 2024 www.europarl.europa.eu/doceo/docume...

My heart breaks for any teenager who may be newly diagnosed with KS/HH, trying to learn more about their diagnosis, and comes across all the vile stuff that's being posted on social media (including here) today.

Kallmann syndrome is a real condition that affects real people. Have some respect.

I really hate all the Kallmann syndrome sensationalism across social media right now. If you are still on X, here is a Tweetorial on KS I did for Rare Disease month a few years ago. x.com/kamerlinlab/...
Caroline Lynn Kamerlin 🇺🇸🇬🇧🇸🇪🇮🇷 ☀️ 🇪🇺🦓 on X: "Rare disease experience: it took me 23 years to find out I have congenital hypogonadism and another year to find out I have Kallmann syndrome specifically (hyposmia). For the prior 23 years, while some people took me seriously, 1/" / X

This is a horrible day to search for Kallmann syndrome on BSky. Check out instead @kallmann-syndrome.bsky.social or delayed-puberty.com for correct information on our condition. 🦓

As soon as I read this title I thought "please don't be Kallmann syndrome". It's bad enough having a rare condition no one has heard of named after a dodgy eugenicist, now anyone who has heard of it will think of it as "that thing Hitler had" 😭 www.thejc.com/news/world/h...
