It is not true “England cannot effectively subsidise travel costs”. Retired people get free travel. By freezing the fuel duty escalator we are subsidising car drivers, which compounds inequality. See more here: bettertransport.org.uk/media/groups...

It's embarassing to see someone with a PhD and years if experience use AI to make a presentation on something they are an expert on, and then tell you to ignore some parts of diagrams because the AI made them up and those bits are wrong.
That's embarrassing for us both.

Politicians don't see immigration as a two-way street, they just see it for their own political perspective. It's always portrayed as if we're doing skilled immigrants a favour by 'letting them in' when in reality the reverse true. Why would you migrate to a country that doesn't value you?

Another big factor for the UK is its slide down the income rankings.
Would-be migrants want to join a dynamic economy with the promise of high and rising wages.
The UK used to fit that bill, but Britain’s top salaries are now well down the list.

Told my friend I really wrecked my knee dancing on stage for a charity performance and she hit me with "no good deed goes unpunished" and I'm now wondering where that phrase originates... seems to discourage philanthropy or at least shows those who like a little pain for being a good girl 🤣🤣

We in the UK will work out far too late that this is a bad thing.
NEW from me:
Political hostility, high visa fees and (in the case of the UK) stagnant incomes are making the UK and US less attractive destinations for top international talent.
That steep decline in the appeal of moving to the US after 2016 is 👀

I'm no lawyer, so won't explain it 100%, but the UK had to implement LGR in 2004. In 2011 the CoE were satisfied this happened after assurances from the UK. However, it seems the EA2010 states that apparently we never had it according to the SC ruling 2025.
So the UK lied to the CoE.

Contrary to the impression given to the Council of Europe in 2011 the UK therefore does not presently and did not at that time have a legal process for a change of sex as is required by the ECHR judgments of Goodwin v UK and Grant v UK.
