The culture wars raging about the BBC’s output make it practically impossible to do more than initially cover events. I’d rather their analysis was late rather than absent altogether.

It’s a mark of how phenomenal Dickens’ descriptions are (and how faithful the illustrator) that within a few pages of the opening of any of his novels, you can pick out each character from the illustration helpfully supplied.
