Neither of my parents were Canadian citizens when I was born. I don't think they were even permanent residents. Would love to know if that means I'm "devaluing" Canadian citizenship.

(jk, I'm white, so I know they don't mean me, because they are racist)

On Monday, Pierre Poilievre shared his party’s petition to “end DEI” and “restore the merit principle.”

Just before that, another Conservative MP posted that “Canada must now place restrictions on birthright citizenship”

If it all sounds a bit Trump-y, that’s probably because…it is:

#31DaysOfGraves day 12: notable woman

Heloise, abbess, philosopher, woman of letters
Half of one of the most famous romances of the middle ages

While they ultimately could not be together, she came out of it better than Abelard, who was castrated on the order of Heloise's uncle
An elaborate stone tomb in the Gothic style. There is a trifoil window, columns with trifoil arches, gargoyles on the corners. It looks like if a chuch was a gazebo. Inside, a prone stone figure can be seen. The tomb is behind a wrought iron fence. The head of a female figure, meant to represent Heloise. She is lying prone and is wearing a nun's veil and wimple. Not visible in the picture is the figure of Abelard, who is next to her.

A Mountie uniform to represent Canada doesn't even rise to the level of phoning it in.
bevismusson.bsky.social
Mr Canada. Oh. Oh dear. It's kind of impressive that you can take a uniform as hot as the Mountie's uniform and make it look just a bit weird. The trousers look far too big for him too

Supreme Court of Canada updates Santa-ish ceremonial robes

“The old red robes were never especially popular among the nine people who had to shoulder the garments.
‘Very, very, very heavy,’ said former justice Frank Iacobucci.”

Here’s a primer on ‘primer.’

It’s pronounced ‘PRIMM-er’ if you mean “a small book” or “a short informative piece of writing.”

It’s pronounced ‘PRY-mer’ if you mean “an initial coat of paint.”

#31DayOfGraves day 9: hand

Père Lachaise, Paris
A close-up of a portion of a bronze monument. A hand rises from waves, clutching something (a grenade?). Around the wrist is tied a flag. The flag has three wide stripes: yellow, red, and purple.

I read the numbers somewhere for the last municipal election, and they were pretty sad.

(Also, I am not pleased with our new deputy mayor)
