If you’re eligible for an educator discount, Amazon just put up the Black Friday sale price that takes Adobe Creative Cloud back down to a humane $15/mo. They jacked the price way up this summer ($70 a mo!).
You can buy these 1-year plans instead. Cancel current, apply code.

Just the other day, I saw my thicc American Heritage from sophomore year (we were required to buy a dictionary for a lit course; I was a rule follower) on a shelf, and considered how much I miss looking up words in a physical book and getting distracted by all the other cool words along the way.
Dictionary day is finally here! The first new print M-W in more than 20 years
Merriam-Webster, the country’s oldest dictionary publisher which is headquartered in Springfield, just released an updated Collegiate edition with 5,000 new entries.

setup / payoff:

original post was a question: What's something you didn't realize was optional in life until someone simply refused to do it?

Not really relevant to this post.

Please skip ahead to the "Uncle Sam's Floating House of Shooty Ships" in the last paragraph (pic 1) and read on... 😂

Growing up in a time when “selling out” was the most shameful thing you could do and then being forced to live through the 2020s feels like being kicked in the head by a horse every day

I think about this nearly every day. We saw a better world, in many ways, and then threw it in the trash because money.

It's why I loved NK Jemisin's award-winning novella, Emergency Skin (2019) - it'll ruin the story if I tell you why.
Give it a read.
Remember how just a few years ago during the worst of the pandemic when we saw how the govt can actually do big things and saw that our collective health & well-being are intertwined, and then corporations got mad that they lost a modicum of power and helped fund a backlash of amnesia and fascism?

@sarahpinsker.bsky.social I didn't realize you were on Bluesky till just now when I replied (too much) to your horror thread. :)

I LOVE "Wind Will Rove" - I recommend it to people all the time, especially teachers and musicians. ♥️

I read A Song for A New Day in 2020 just before Covid hit.

Halloween 2002.
Our neighbor/coworker knocks on the door. He's playing this game called "Halo" on his XBox and he doesn't want to play the scary bits by himself. Would we come down and play co-op?

😂Helps to know this man is 6'4" and 350 lbs.

The "meet the Flood" level changed me forever. 😱😨🙀

Someone in an employee chat asked about favorite horror games so I've been walking memory lane a bit.

I don't play many straight-up horror games, but I would list
* Dead Space 1 - my personal scariest game
* Bioshock - still holds up
* SOMA (I need to finish it)

Saw someone play Amnesia - scary!

I think AI and classrooms are going to be a tough mix.

Any teachers out there in my feed? How's it feeling right now re: AI in your educational spaces?

Good evening. We estimate that between 4.2 and 7.6 million people turned out for the No Kings Day demonstrations held around the country on Saturday. This makes Oct 18 very likely the biggest single-day U.S. protest event since 1970. www.gelliottmorris.com/p/second-no-...

Curious if MAGA knows that "God Bless America" was written by someone not born in America who arrived here without any authorization whatsoever and yet, through the woke policies of the time, was allowed to stay and to become a naturalized citizen. So very "open borders."

This is super really bad. If you had to provide age verification docs to Discord, you really need to read this.

Also this is evidence that requiring uploads of age verification data in order to access adult content is only going to get people’s government IDs posted by hackers. Not good. +
