Rabbits aren't habitual carrot eaters, but that got ingrained in the culture because Bugs Bunny was inspired by Clark Gable's character in the film It Happened One Night, where he's introduced standing in a field munching on a carrot.

Yeah, I eventually learned the old Looney Tunes cartoons had more pop culture references than The Simpsons, they were just all movies and radio serials from the 1930s and 40s, many long forgotten.

Outside of the space tech and transporters, a lot of Star Trek tech is merely cutting edge. They had walkie-talkies in WWII. Automat restaurants were even older. Audio cassettes were brand new in the mid-1960s. Automatic doors existed but were 10-15 years away from being ubiquitous.

Even that conception is also almost obsolete. My kids have only ever watched TV on streaming; a dead channel to them is a buffering wheel endlessly spinning, or some kind of error code page.

I used to consider it one of the lesser I, Robot stories, but "LIAR!" now feels prophetic concerning LLMs and GenAI.

And The Caves of Steel and The Naked Sun were hands down better than the Foundation trilogy.

25 years in, we are NOT allowing genAI music onto OC ReMix, full stop.

We're 100% against genAI music and are a community geared toward authentic creativity and artistic development. You don't get that by doing text prompts.

Recent comment: "This A.I. music is as fake as 🏈 🦇."

In this case, this is human-made. (3 of our judges panel are also involved as collaborators on it: jnWake, pixelseph, and paradiddlesjosh.)

We explicitly do NOT accept any music made with generative A.I. There are tools out there that help identify genAI music. If music involving genAI is ever unknowingly let on, it will be removed if it's discovered.

So there's this Vietnamese logger named Ho Khanh. One day he's out searching for agarwood (aka eaglewood aka Wood of the Gods), a fragrant, resinous wood used in incense & perfume.

Ho Khanh is out in the jungle and finds what seems to be an entrance into an undiscovered cave.

It's hard to help Americans left behind because so much of US identity is rooted in individualism. The average American conservative holds all three positions at once:

— Virtue signals about supporting US manufacturing
— Against raising the minimum wage
— Buys foreign imports because they're cheap
HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "I'm willing to pay more for quality products if they are made in America, by Americans, who are paid a decent income." The tweet shows Norman Rockwell's "Freedom of Speech" painting, which is often used to show the tweeter is expressing a brave opinion. HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "MINIMUM WAGE JOBS WERE NOT MEANT TO BE A CAREER. Why does no one understand this? Entry level jobs are STEPPING STONES to better jobs. No one wants to work towards that though." HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "Buy $5 gloves instead of $50 ones. Trust me." The tweet shows a box of "Gorilla Grip" gloves. The label on Gorilla Grip gloves show they're made in China.

Ultimately, the death of US manufacturing is about this attitude. It's easy to say "buy american or stfu" because virtue signaling is free. But it's hard to actually sustain a business because many Americans simply don't want to pay what it costs to produce things ethically in this country
Someone on Twitter replies to me: "meh. buy american or stfu."

Two hours later, in a separate thread, the write: "$30 for a single button-up is ridiculous unless it is decent quality silk."

That was the first film I remember marking that a bad movie could still have good performances.

I'm laughing out loud because, *twenty years ago*, a friend in robotics told me that showing off a dancing robot is what you do when your robot sucks, and a *group* of them even more so.

On Oct. 11, 1979, the first episode of the revival of The Littlest Hobo debuted on CTV. Based off a 1958 movie and 1960s TV show, it aired for six seasons and 114 episodes.
With its famous theme song, it is beloved by generations of Canadians.
This is the story.

🧵 1/11
A collage featuring the title "The Littlest Hobo" in bold yellow letters, with four images of a German Shepherd dog: one sitting at a desk with papers, one standing near trees, one near a brick wall, and one in a natural outdoor setting with greenery, all set against a black background.

I'm perplexed at watching pundits in the trades struggling to explain Tron Ares' disappointing opening.

Was it covid? Do people just not like science fiction? etc. etc.

The main reason is pretty obvious: Tron isn't a popular franchise. Nobody's interested in nostalgia for a failed 1980s project.

Everyone should go watch Innocent Blood if you want something fun for Halloween, this is an absolutely incredible schlocky horror movie. What's it about? A vampire who only feeds on criminals accidentally turns a mafia boss who starts making a whole syndicate of vampire mobsters.

The Trillium is hammering this story.
