Summary
Ed winks and blows him a kiss, and perhaps it’s the early morning making him go gently mad, but Stede’s pretty certain the wind shifts to ensure its safe passage to his cheek. It’s what it feels like, anyway, as he stands barefoot on the deck, absorbing the sunrise in his new red robe — like the world might be on his side. Or at the very least, and for the first time in his life, not actively conspiring against him.

‘There, look.’

The bird is too far above to make out, really. From sea level, it’s nothing more than a black skirr against the morning’s blood-orange splash, but it’s taken a while to spot her again, dancing on wind drifts and, Stede assumes, getting a good look at the day that’s creeping towards them over the horizon, and he’s not going to let her out of his sight now.

‘Do you see?’ He turns, finger still raised. ‘Ed?’

‘Mm?’

Ed’s reclined lazily along the gunwale. He’s got his back against the rise of the forecastle and his legs dangling on either side of the barrier, and Stede takes a moment to enjoy the thrill of pleasure at being able to look at each of these things and name them. Gunwale! Forecastle! Boyfriend!

What a thing.

One of the things I hear with some younger trans people I know is they feel, "I'm gonna get this surgery, and I'm gonna learn that way of speaking, and I'm gonna be done." You're never done. If you're a straight, cisgender person, you're never done. Things are always happening that have the potential to change you. So all I am today is not who I'm gonna be tomorrow, because of the things that happened to me today and later tonight. People forget that. "Oh, after I transition, I'm gonna be through." Well, good luck with that. 'Cause if you're through, then it's time to leave, you know, and I don't wanna go anywhere yet.
I'm in my seventies. Why didn't I stop? Number one is community. My gurls. I've had moments of thinking about stopping, but I didn't. I made sure I would step back, reju- venate myself, and then got back out there, and that's how you make a way. Our stories are not all the same, but the destination is: to get some place where we have some peace and harmony, and we can be at ease with ourselves and the people around us. You make the best of it all and hope you can help make it a little better for the gurl after you.

There’s a moment of silence before the beep, and Stede wishes he could stretch it out. He loves Ed so much. So much. It’s just barely dark outside. Ed must be making dinner. Stede asked for pasta, earlier. Distantly, he wonders if the water’s boiling.

Something clarifies in Stede’s mind, slotting into place. He’d hate to ruin Ed’s meal. As the phone sharply beeps, Stede presses down harder on his stomach.

“Ed, darling,” He starts. He wants to cry. He thinks he might already be. Ed’s the darlingest man who has ever set foot on this earth. “I don’t think I’m going to be home— hmm.” His stomach hurts. “I don’t. I don’t think I’m going to be home in time for supper. I’m sorry. I just might be a little bit late. Sorry. I love you, Ed."

my big 10”+ snakey tat took 5.5 hours but some of that was the artist freehanding. my 3x6 one took about 2/2.5hrs? i usually assume it’ll be a couple hours in case the artist needs more breaks (or i do) - and add time if it’s stick and poke (in my experience!)

after literal years of forgetting + the form being closed due to oversubscription I finally succeeded in submitting my request to be assessed for adhd 🕺🏻 plus a diff req. for an allergy test for the 5 allergies I suddenly developed 7 (seven) years ago. hopefully the two requests…. paint a picture
