Horrible day w 1 of my classes. I have tried everything, but I’m just giving up. The student evaluations for that course are in hell anyway. 😔
If 150+ ppl don’t want to engage in activities/content that’s been successful w students for years, then I just gotta give up esp at semester’s end.

It sucks that meeting a new class now involves not just going over the syllabus, setting expectations, and trying to establish a rapport, but also trying to deduce whether any of your new students are vigilante right wing operatives out to seek viral controversy at the expense of your job
If you are a chair of a department or supervise grad students, it might be important to collaborate with your colleagues on ways to strategize when a "problem essay" comes down the pike. It's one small way of protecting each other.

It’s infuriating to me that I need to evaluate media to determine whether it’s AI generated now. The great “time saver” technology wastes incalculable time and energy for people who want to retain their grasp on reality

As I always do with boycotts, I urge: be tough with corporations, gentle with individual buyers. For some people, Black Friday sales are the way they get their kids jackets that fit, shoes that hold up to the weather. Yelling at them doesn’t help the cause.

Your education cannot be social media. If you're not reading, you're not learning. Podcasts can be educational when they have scholars, authors, etc who actually have expertise on a topic. Reading is essential. When Kendrick said "turn the TV off" it was more than a metaphor.

This Thanksgiving had a different underlying tone to it since I recently learned of my ancestors at the first Thanksgiving, ancestors whose descendants assimilated to stay safe. They wanted descendants like me to be white and safer, and they got that. It’s hard to process what it all means.

Now that I haven’t used Facebook in years, I have only ever interacted with my high school friends. The “popular” kids/bullies from K12 don’t ever show up in my life or feeds. If I have run across one ever, it’s the well-known-in-HS, nice, hardworking folks.
My HS self needed to know this.
