Let's not forget that Nixon cut a behind the scenes deal with both North and South Vietnam to slow the peace talks until after the 1968 election. How many U. S. servicemen died because of that delay. Like Trump and Afghanistan, we ended up abandoning the country where we fought.

I wasn't told to speak Spanish even once during the 3 years I lived in Puerto Rico. I was even given a translator when I went to court for an expired inspection ticket on my car. Beautiful island, lovely people.

They left the ELCA over ordaining LGBTQ pastors. The have since merged with a Pentecostal Church. I guess style and flash prevailed over substance, leading to the demise of the congregation.

That reminds me of attending the last mission conference of the Central District of the ALC. The founder of the mega ALC church, Community Church of Joy in Glendale AZ spoke about its coffee shop. He said it would be better to not have Lutheran in our congregations' names.

Once again, Revised Common Lectionary for today provide a reading that is appropriate for the time.

1 The oracle that the prophet Habakkuk saw. 2 O LORD, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not listen? Or cry to you “Violence!” and you will not save? 3 Why do you make me see wrongdoing and look at trouble? Destruction and violence are before me; strife and contention arise. 4 So the law becomes slack, and justice never prevails. The wicked surround the righteous; therefore judgment comes forth perverted.

A lot of bad things are happening now, but there are some good things too. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, known as the whitest denomination in America, installed its first black Presiding Bishop today.

Republicans don't want to continue the ACA subsidies which aid poorer people. Instead they want to continue the tax breaks for the wealthy.

The readings assigned by the Revised Common Lectionary for last Sunday speak directly to that.
