On a personal note, I grew up as a Catholic and I am not one now. But I’m reminded of the crucial role of the Church in the fight for human rights in Chile (and, with a mixed record, in my own Argentina). I’m heartened to see the Church standing up for immigrants in the United States.

TFW you’re having dinner in Brooklyn, and the restaurant decides to use a playlist with You Oughta Know and Zombie back to back. What a moment.

Counterpoint: maybe Watson was a misogynist and a racist from the start and shouldn’t have had any sterling reputation to begin with. This is him, in his own words, on Rosalind Franklin.

(Robert recalled an even worse story involving Franklin, which I haven’t read for myself.)

We really were trying to give Juniper the presumption of innocence when we saw the first sock downstairs, but then we found a total of seven socks by the time we reached the bedroom. Busy day. I don’t thinks she wants to take this one to trial.

I saw someone posting about NYC children having a “weak” Halloween, and this is my three block radius in spontaneous (bad) pictures.

Yes, there’s a shipwreck with a candy chute around the corner from me and the boulder of doom from Indiana Jones one block away.

My phone decided to show me this TBT picture of Juniper, which I didn’t even remember, and I just can’t with the cuteness! Here’s the timeline cleanse you didn’t know you needed.

50 yrs ago, 90% of women in Iceland went on strike. No cooking, cleaning or childcare. Schools closed. Flights grounded. Men stayed home or took kids to work. Today Iceland has smallest gender pay gap in the world & tough equal pay laws. @josiecox.bsky.social

50 Years Ago, Iceland's Women Went on Strike. It Changed Everything.
They stopped cleaning and cooking; they stopped doing laundry and they stopped looking after their children. They’d had enough.

I will soon have the chance to legally change my name to make it shorter/easier (i.e., drop the second last name). But should I? Will it actually make things easier or add confusion*? Opinions welcome.

* Updating all my bar admissions will probably be a pain.

Hi, I'm the ProPublica reporter who's been tracking an unusual stat: U.S. citizens grabbed by immigration agents.

I did it because the government isn’t.

This is what I found.

From downstairs, I could hear my dog was distraught. Inconsolable whining. Either she had got herself stuck behind a closed door somehow, or a ball had rolled beyond her reach where only a human could get it.

The ball(s): see below.

At least she won’t ever fall down the stairs, I guess?
