If Aragonese ‘rabosa’ and dialectal Spanish ‘raposa’ (“fox”) are really derived from Latin ‘rāpum’ (“turnip”) and not from *ħrau̯paHc̑á, these are some fancy false cognates.

Hat die koloniale Ausbeutung von Ländern und Kontinenten den wirtschaftlichen und damit auch politischen Erfolg des Westens erst ermöglicht? Ergibt sich daraus eine historische Schuld, die es wiedergutzumachen gilt? Die Ergebnisse der wirt-schaftshistorischen Forschung liefern hierzu keine eindeutigen Antworten. De facto profitierten die Kolonialmächte nur partiell, während die koloniale Eroberung gleichzeitig hohe Kosten verursachte. Die These, dass der Kapitalismus die Triebkraft des Kolonialismus gewesen sei, erweist sich als bloße Behauptung. Tatsächlich war es die überlegene Wettbewerbsfähigkeit des kapitalistischen Modells, die den Aufstieg der westlichen Volkswirtschaften ermöglichte.
