Peter Hartcher arguing for an Australian nuke is one of the dumbest things you’ll read this year. It’s February I know. But I’m making the call.

‘Quick, get the camera, we’re throwing Nick Cave down an ice tube’

[Natalie Portman as Padme in the meme] ‘for the Olympics, right?’
If Flavor Flav can yeet himself down the tube: every country should have a louche elderly musician hype man risking their physical wellbeing for their Olympic team.

I think this is part right. Whitlam was more suspicious of migrants *as migrants* than anyone in modern politics, precisely because he knew it was unreasonable to expect migrants to flip an assimilation switch and leave their past self behind. The ALP has always been cynical/instrumental about this
A lot of Howard's rhetoric comes out of Whitlam's second term in Opposition, if not earlier?

Many are saying this about Baz Lurhmann’s Romeo and Juliet
'here's a movie where the director figured, how can I modernise a sword fight. I know by putting the word SWORD on a pistol in a close up. Yeah, that's the kind of movie it is, buckle up'

When I realized what they were doing with the names of the blades weapons, I laughed out loud in the theater, and from that point on I was 100% on board
I'm sorry, but Baz Lurhman making the guns in Romeo + Juliet Sword and Longsword as like, makes, was the coolest shit ever. "Give me my longsword" hell yeah Baz I was 12 and am 41 and that still fucking rules.

Louder, Baz. 11 is amateur hour.

The thing about present day Liberals wanting return to ‘1960s and 1970s’ migration expectations is that it was precisely that period when Australia started experimenting with non-assimilationist migration policy. Inclusive language policy, welfare support, and things like SBS. Liberal achievements!
