Relatedly, I think we underrate the extent to which Trump is a fully normal politician to young people. There's an abstract awareness that he represents a break from the past, but they don't personally remember it. This year's college freshmen were born in 2006-2007.

Every so often you run across yet another reminder of how shameful the story of this era is going to be in the history books someday. On so many levels, including the dystopian cheery tone of this NYT caption…

Federal employees are struggling because they don't know when they'll receive their next paycheck.

Instead of coming back to work to negotiate a deal to reopen the government, Republican leaders announced they’re taking a sixth week of vacation.

It's supposed to be payday for many federal workers. Instead, they're getting nothing

Roughly 1.4 million federal workers are going without pay due to the government shutdown. About half of them are furloughed, while the other half has been deemed essential and is working without pay.
