There are 6 times as many librarians in the US as coal miners
There are ten times as many home health aides in the US as there are miners
right. given the numbers, “how to win back the working class” should be as much about care and service workers as hard hats. and yet.

You can't have a democracy without a legislature.
They don’t even pretend to care. This is the only story. You can’t open the government if the House refuses to show up.

If only there were a model for journalistic outrage over a president’s son trading on his name
NEW: Don Trump Jr.--after helping pick top Pentagon officials to join his dad's administration--has now become an investor and advisor to Pentagon drone builders. This as President Trump orders Pentagon to buy more drones. A NYT investigation of this latest conflict.

People all over the country need to understand that federal agents are not in Chicago to prevent violence – they're in Chicago to cause violence.
(from the inbox) Less than an hour later this morning, just before 10:30 at Roscoe and Harding, feds again released gas as they were driving away, unobstructed, from a relatively small number of neighbors.

Tear it down and build a new executive office building for all the federal workers we'll need just fix what Trump broke.
You know what day should be a national holiday in 2029?

THE DAY OF THE COMPLETE AND TOTAL BULLDOZING OF THE PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP BALLROOM.

This is quite a video. Locals screaming “get out of here you fucking Nazis” at armed ICE agents who hop in their car and quickly drive away.

ICE is doing real harm, but it is also far far FAR weaker—and more deeply hated—than Stephen Miller wishes, and its weakness is really showing.

Reminder: Trump is following the playbook of Rodrigo Duterte, currently on trial in the ICC for crimes against humanity. You can't just fucking kill people, no matter what this rogue SCOTUS says.

Relatedly, I think we underrate the extent to which Trump is a fully normal politician to young people. There's an abstract awareness that he represents a break from the past, but they don't personally remember it. This year's college freshmen were born in 2006-2007.
I think the Reagan ad is most effective not by the topic but by reminding everyone that presidents don't have to sound like insane morons.

For context, annual military compensation is about $600 billion. So $130 million is about $100 per service member or 0.02% of total annual costs. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/25/u...
Once the precedent of not paying the troops according to the rules is created, bad things follow. $130 million is not a large portion of military salary, but sends the message to troops that Trump and his buddies are personally paying them.

Timothy Mellon of the famous Pittsburgh Mellon family is the one who provided $130 million to pay US military personnel.

His views on social safety nets are that Democrats “buy” votes by providing government funds to pay for food for infants.

Federal employees are struggling because they don't know when they'll receive their next paycheck.

Instead of coming back to work to negotiate a deal to reopen the government, Republican leaders announced they’re taking a sixth week of vacation.
It's supposed to be payday for many federal workers. Instead, they're getting nothing
Roughly 1.4 million federal workers are going without pay due to the government shutdown. About half of them are furloughed, while the other half has been deemed essential and is working without pay.

This document is … insane? Incredible?

In it the USG shakes down a university for $1.17 BILLION “to avoid legal action” and dictates how hiring, promotion, admissions, scholarships, and CURRICULA REVIEW will be conducted. It stipulates how and when students can protest on campus.

It is un-American
