We are a group of people in Leicestershire who want better local transport options. Primarily safe walking wheeling and cycling routes to schools, shops and transport hubs. We want safer quieter local streets and see active travel as the key enabler.

The latest National Travel Survey clearly questions that old myth about "Active travel is just for the middle classes, what about working people who have to drive?"

READ: If you care about how we’ve been “planning” our cities and suburbs, this is REALLY important.

I’ve been saying this in ways for years now, but I haven’t put it in writing very much. I don’t use these kinds of words lightly or often. But too much patience is part of the problem.

Please share.

“We’ve seen outstanding results, such as the Elizabeth line, where passenger numbers have outpaced forecasts & continued to grow; the Dartmoor Line where passenger demand was 50% higher than projected; & the Northumberland Line, where the annual forecast was exceeded within the first 3 months” 👏👏👏
New line passenger forecasts 'should be based on previous successes'
Campaign for Better Transport says forecasts should better reflect the success of routes such as the Elizabeth, Dartmoor and Northumberland lines.

🅿️ Pavement parking is dangerous. It pushes vulnerable people and children into the carriageway. That's why we're campaigning for city-wide measures to get parking back under control.

This is excellent! I hope many more of these schemes get set up and supported. Enabling people to bike as everyday transport, that’s what it’s all about!

Wow! Free bikes trial schemes in 3 areas showed a 12x returning investment.
Reduced expected cases of disease by 16% and deaths by 6%.
What a win. We should be rolling these schemes to all deprived neighbourhoods.

A huge 81% of trips under one mile are now being walked or wheeled with the average distance walked at the highest level since records began - at 230 miles per person in 2024.

Great to see some fantastic walking statistics in today's National Travel Survey results.

It’s really important that #Vancouver’s Downtown Business Association, who were originally against bike-lanes, are now among their most vigourous supporters, because of ACTUAL EVIDENCE that they’re better for downtown business than any street parking they replaced.

Safe bike-lanes mean business.

Many of Britain’s 6,116 villages and small communities have an A-Road running through them. Fast roads like these are slicing British villages in two, creating Highway Halves. So, how do we fix it?

Paris has now permanently pedestrianized hundreds of school streets.

Serious question: Is there anywhere in the UK that has even done one?

Is there not so much as one municipality in this entire country where child safety counts for as much as car owner convenience?

Not one?
