We are a group of people in Leicestershire who want better local transport options. Primarily safe walking wheeling and cycling routes to schools, shops and transport hubs. We want safer quieter local streets and see active travel as the key enabler.
The thing we see here is that cycling is deemed to be leisure and tourism. Not transport. Our district council focuses on active travel as part of leisure, health and tourism. That means trying to improve health on a special outing versus creating the conditions for improving health every day.

Good Active Travel Forum at Leics County Council yesterday. We’re moving forward hopefully. Film night I think tonight.

A huge bugbear in Leicester. The bus station is nowhere near the train station. It’s a good 15-20 mins walk. That’s not integrated transport.

With the levels of traffic being generated due to these developments with in built car dependency, cities are becoming the quieter healthier places to live in.

They have completely moved out of Leicester city centre and have moved and expanded into the environmental catastrophe on the outskirts that is Fosse Park retail park. They are a climate and traffic inducing nightmare.

I pootle on a bike. The risk is extremely low. About the same as tripping up or down a pavement. If I cycled like a bat out of hell, yes I’d wear a helmet.
