Kevin Kiley introducing a bill to ban partisan gerrymandering at the national level and desperately trying to become a Reasonable Bipartisan after Newsom deleted his district shows how you *acutally* uphold norms btw: you impost costs for breaking them

Absolute incompetence by Chuck Schumer. I’m as moderate/establishment as it gets, but I’m begging @aoc.bsky.social to announce her primary challenge ASAP.
-Oct 18, more than 7 million Americans stand up and stand together.

-Nov 4, millions of Dems turn out for landslide wins in VA, NJ, NY, CA, GA, many other places.

-Nov 9, eight "Dems" say "Oh, this nice Mike Johnson and Mr. Trump say they care about health. If they don't, well shame on them..."

"In 2024, death-sentenced prisoners asked the Court to review constitutional claims in their cases or grant a stay of execution 148 times. The Court agreed just three times, twice in the same case."

But if it will save 16 million kids from starving, then make sure to issue that stay.
This is actually a pretty standard and unremarkable move, as evidenced by Justice Jackson issuing it.

But most people won't believe that for several good reasons.

#BREAKING: Justice Jackson has issued an "administrative" stay, temporarily pausing a district court order that would've required the USDA to continue using contingency funds to pay SNAP benefits.

The stay expires 48 hours after the First Circuit rules on USDA's request for a stay pending appeal.

The Rockies are hiring DePodesta to run Baseball operations. He was fired as the Dodgers GM 20 years ago; 5 months later we drafted Clayton Kershaw. He runs football operations for the Cleveland Browns (2-6). He served in the Board of Sears just before it went bankrupt.

Same in California.
A big thank you to our poll workers and election judges for your commitment to democracy. Minnesota’s elections are safe, free, and fair because of you.

We're like the Dodgers; we're going to just keep winning.
For the record: I'm not tired of winning.

Great story by @mjszabo.bsky.social about our win in the Huntington Beach Voter ID case yesterday.

We will see if the City decides to go lose before the State Supreme Court too.

Please, PLEASE, I am begging you as both a parent and someone who is sick of all this THIS, go vote for your school boards. Even if you don't have kids, that's how these reactionary dipshits got their feet in, that's where the book bans and library cuts start.

Big win for voting rights in California. The Court of Appeal ruled that the Huntington Beach Voter ID Charter Amendment violates state law.

We won, and if Huntington Beach wants to try to take it to the State Supreme Court, we will win there.
The California Fourth District Court of Appeal today reversed an OC Superior Court decision, striking down Huntington Beach’s voter ID charter amendment. The city can seek review in the California Supreme Court.

Story coming.

The other place sucks, but even Baseball Twitter has gotten terrible. Here it's all "wow, what an amazing series; can't believe how good the Jays were; amazing that the Dodgers pulled it out."

Over there it's still "Dodgers bought a dynasty; Jays tried to" and "Houston Never Cheated."

Just sad.

It never felt like the Dodgers had the better chance to win this World Series until the very moment they won it.

Let them just share the trophy. I don’t want to do this anymore.

Joe Davis should remember that this World Series will create another 3 time Cy Young and World Champion either way.

Written by @mikepetriello.bsky.social a month ago as the postseason began.

Tonight is Game 7 of the World Series and #2 is happening.

Other than just wanting the Dodgers to win, and Kershaw pitching the 9th with an 8 run lead, I really want #5 to happen.
For the very first time, a fully functional Shohei Ohtani -- available to pitch & hit -- will be seen in the playoffs.

How will he be used? I dug into 6 different possibilities, from the most obvious to ... absolutely insane (yet still legal!).

6 increasingly unhinged ways to use Ohtani in playoffs
The Dodgers are going to be in the postseason, once again. They’ll have Shohei Ohtani atop the lineup, once again. But: How will they use him? In what role? Or roles? Baseball’s most interesting man –...

This is a fine retort, but everyone needs to remember that our tax dollars are not subsidizing Lobster for SNAP recipients. They are subsidizing Lobster fishers/farmers/producers.

SNAP is administered by the Ag Department not the Human Services Department because its origin is as a farm subsidy.

Amazing. Assuming that the story is true, Vance accepts the unproven assumption of a random person (whom he does not identify), and expects his audience to be as credulous as him.

The facts is that labor unions have long led the way in diversity (as the menswear guy explains).
JD Vance claims that diversity weakens unions, as people end up distrusting each other and not organizing.

Let me tell you two menswear stories related to this claim. 🧵

I don't know much about physics, but what Smoltz just said about Vladdy can't be true. The idea that he strikes out less because he has a flatter swing makes no sense. He's suggesting you have a better opportunity to connect because the swing plane matches the plane of the ball.

Someone needs to explain to the head of the country's largest health insurer what "insurance" means.

“I have to ask myself — you should be as well — if I had insurance, why would I never use it?”

(BTW, this demonstrates that health *care* remains too costly, thus the need for continued subsidies.)
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz on Wednesday questioned the legitimacy of Affordable Care Act coverage for many Americans, saying that “half” of the people enrolled in the subsidized health insurance plans “filed no claims last year.” https://to.pbs.org/4okcYaQ
