FINAL UPDATE — Around noon, the community responded to the presence of Border Patrol agents at 105th Street and South Avenue N., only a few blocks from the Walgreens.

Dozens of locals gathered at the scene after the agents were reportedly involved in a car crash.

Critics point out that most boycotts don't impact companies’ bottom lines significantly enough to lead to policy changes, and they're right.

But if I found out my bank was renting out a room for someone to keep people in cages, I'd still tell everyone I know and would never do business there again.

Just as important, there are also leaders offering their communities alternative visions for their identity and economic revitalization.

After seeing a brief clip of Rev. Antwon Nixon speaking about the Folkston facility, I had to look him up.

His story is worth reading.

When the Rev. Antwon Nixon returned to his Georgia hometown, he didn't expect the call that would lead to his becoming a minister who would expand his church beyond its walls, all the way to the neigh...

According to GEO’s website, it has provided a total of $15,700 in scholarships to Folkston students.

Just over half as much as the $30,000 that FEC records show its PAC has donated to Georgia Republican Congressman Buddy Carter.

Exploitation is the foundation of The GEO Group’s business model. Exploitation of marginalized people. Exploitation of taxpayers.

And exploitation of their employees and the communities where they operate. 🧵

Vance and Miller really awaken some latent bullying instinct in me. Archetypal smug loudmouths who are constantly either punching down or taking cheap shots.

Boycotting isn't just about wielding our power as consumers; it's also about wielding our power as citizens and neighbors.

The term 'boycott' itself comes from the name of a 19th-century English land agent in Ireland whose community ostracized him to protest the unfair treatment of tenant farmers.
Graphic with an image of a masked ICE officer wearing sunglasses, tactical gear, and a hat. Alongside it is a quote from Charles Stewart Parnell's 1880 speech encouraging the ostracism of Charles Cunningham Boycott:

You must shun him on the roadside when you meet him, you must shun him in the streets of the town, you must shun him in the shop, you must shun him on the fair green and in the market place, and even in the place of worship, by leaving him alone, by putting him in moral Coventry, by isolating him from the rest of the country, as if he were
the leper of old.

Must-read reporting on another of a growing number of what might be called 'faux-bid' contracts — ones with contracting processes that technically allow for multiple bidders, but timelines or parameters so restrictive as to effectively eliminate any real competition.

The future of the Democratic Party must be rooted in investing in the American people — not Wall St., corporations, and consultants.

Otherwise, Trumpism will continue to use cynicism, racism, and distrust to divide America.

ICE left David, a 17-year-old boy, stranded on the side of Interstate 20 after pulling over his immigrant father, Hector, in Mississippi.

David began running in the scorching sun after the car and watched as it disappeared from sight—soon headed to a Louisiana ICE prison.

Here's their story.

On the left, a graphic commonly used to depict the dynamics of abusive relationships. On the right, an adaptation showing how those dynamics are at play now.

It's a regime of abusers at its core.
A black-and-white diagram titled “Power and Control Wheel.” At the center is a circle labeled “Power and Control.” Surrounding it are eight segments describing abusive tactics:

Using Coercion and Threats – threats to hurt her, leave, commit suicide, report her, drop charges, make her do illegal things.

Using Intimidation – making her afraid with looks, actions, smashing things, destroying property, abusing pets, displaying weapons.

Using Emotional Abuse – putting her down, name-calling, making her feel guilty, humiliating her, playing mind games, making her think she’s crazy.

Using Isolation – controlling what she does, who she sees and talks to, limiting outside involvement, using jealousy to justify actions.

Minimizing, Denying, and Blaming – making light of abuse, not taking concerns seriously, denying abuse, shifting blame, saying she caused it.

Using Children – making her feel guilty about children, using children to relay messages, using visitation to harass, threatening to take them away.

Using Male Privilege – treating her like a servant, making all big decisions, acting like “master of the castle,” defining men’s and women’s roles.

Using Economic Abuse – preventing her from working, making her ask for money, giving allowance, taking money, hiding or controlling family income.

Around the outside ring are the words “Physical Violence” and “Sexual Violence.” A graphic titled “Power & Control” modeled after the domestic violence Power and Control Wheel, but adapted to authoritarian regimes. The center shows the words “Power & Control” with a hand holding puppet strings. Eight surrounding circles describe methods of control:

Using Economic Abuse – tariffs, lawsuits, cutting funding, refusing payments, withholding aid, punishing dissenters, targeting labor.

Using Coercion & Threats – threats of economic harm, investigations, litigation, exile, imprisonment, violence, or death.

Using Intimidation – deploying law enforcement, military, paramilitary, raids, arrests, beatings, cheering violence.

Using Psychological Abuse – spreading propaganda, disinformation, name-calling, gaslighting, attacks on press, “fake news” claims.

Using Isolation – sowing distrust, us vs. them mentality, surveillance, scapegoating, controlling communication.

Minimizing, Denying, & Blaming – denying wrongdoing, shifting blame, dehumanizing, claiming violence is needed.

Using Children – framing policies as child protection, indoctrinating youth, controlling education, firing dissenting educators.

Using Privilege – elevating in-group, enforcing hierarchy through white supremacy, misogyny, rigid gender roles, pseudoscience, or religion.

The border of the graphic is labeled “Violence” on all sides.

OK, Pete Hegseth’s an idiot. He left out the word “training” when he said we’re building a Qatari Air Force facility. So I get why people were confused after his announcement yesterday, but I keep seeing folks repeat some version of “Qatar is building an airbase in Idaho.”

That’s not happening.
