If you didn’t read my popular Democracy essay on whiteness, today is a good day as so many of us are grappling with how to respond to the rapid loss of freedom and decency in our nation.

On it. I consider this my top reporting speciality. But our job is getting the info, evidence and options out. The people have to pick it up from there and demand better of their leaders—than, say, bullshit calls for youth curfews and moving cops around line checker pieces. That’s empty marketing.

You know, I’ve been recovering for two weeks from a broken wrist, and I averaged 9 hours sleep daily while on the pain meds. Now I’m off the painkillers and sling and stitches out.

I was thinking hard about this before this weekend and prepped to try again by bringing our long-time, crime-prevention reporting back to the top of my pile. Have a social campaign prepped for it. So, good timing, damn it to hell.

Many people, and kids, could’ve been saved by now if people on all “sides” thinking it’s about a cop on their corner had come together for evidence-based crime prevention. The roadmaps are there.

Even Lumumba pandered to cops instead of leading on real prevention beyond lip service. That hit hard.

And not just any reporter. Radley Balko's reporting has gotten an innocent man off death row. He's broken multiple major stories about huge scandals. He goes in-depth on the ground with tons of local sources. Dismissing his detailed debunking as Weiss did is something no serious journalist would do.

Hi Sally. When Weiss published a supposed expose on the death of George Floyd, a veteran criminal justice reporter showed in deep detail that the piece was not just wrong but filled with falsehoods and misrepresentations. Weiss did not retract the piece. What do you think of that?

I wish I believed it would matter, but we have heartless, bloodthirsty mofos in charge in much of our nation who care more about arming against those with different opinions than other people’s children’s lives and safety. They prove it daily in myriad ways, even letting kids die from … measles.
